Hi Moms, I'm planning a vacation for next summer and trying to decide between Grand Teton/Yellowstone and Acadia National Park in Maine. I'm looking for ANY advice, suggestions, etc. My daughter is 7. Thanks and any thoughts are welcome. It's still early enough that I have plenty of time to plan/change etc.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks all. We'll probably end up doing one this summer and the other next, depending on the deals I can get. The advice was very helpful in my planning, so thanks Mamas.

I grew up vacationing in the national parks and I worked in Acadia for 3 summers in college. Either park is a winner with lots to do with a 7 yr old. Yellowstone is bigger and more isolated, Acadia is a short drive to a walmart. I know Acadia has a bus system to see the park and island, I don't know what Yellowstone has now (It has been close to 20 yrs since I was there last). I know park lodging and some campgrounds fill up very quickly so the earlier your reservations the better. Yellowstone has lots of large wildlife to see, I remember walking past bison on the sidewalk! You'll have fun wherever you go, Have fun planning!

I've never been to Acadia, but some of my favorite childhood vacations were in Yellowstone. Sorry...I don't have anything besides that!

I havent been to either of them but my dad and I use to go to a state park not to far from us every year when I was little. we had a lot more fun renting a tent area than a cabin, so that might be something to consider. it was more fun because we got to have pit fires at night and roast marshmallows and since we didnt have the convience of a microwave or oven that a lot of cabins come with we had fun the week before shopping for food we could it when we were "roughing it" like cereal in indivual boxes that turn into bowls (not exciting now but it was like magic when I was 8.)

I have never been to yellowstone but when I was younger we went to acadia/bar harbor maine. It was beautiful we will definately go when our youngest is a little older. While we were there we went over to great cranberry island. We went on a nature/sight seeing cruise. Of course we went up cadillac mountain lovely views from the top.

I have never been to Acadia but have just come back from Yellowstone. I have 3 kids 3, 6 1/2, and 12yrs old. All of them absolutely loved it and found the park landscape fascinating as well as my husband and I. 80 miles south of West Yellowstone is Bear World at Rexburg well worth a visit you can see a lot of animals up close. There is walking to the sights and around them which they all managed with no complaints! I've always wanted to go to Maine sounds beautiful too whatever decision you make I don't think you will regret it.
