Yeast Skin Infection in 3 y.o.?

My 3 1/2 y.o. son was diagnosed with yeast infection at the beginning of June, after having been dealt with impetigo on mid-May. Anyway, the dr prescribed a cream, it cleared the yeast infection in about two weeks and he was yeast skin infection freee for about two weeks. On early-July it started flaring up and we made a new trip to the dr as the first cream did not work this time. Another cream was prescribed and one week later the rash seems to get worse so we went back to the old cream, but with no visible results.

Just wonder whether someone out there have dealt with yeast skin rash in young children and have any suggestion on what we may need to do. We have an appointment with a dermatologist in 2 weeks but I would like to hear any necouraging stories from you, mommies out there.

Thanks.

So What Happened?

We tried Nyastatin and Ketoconazole, both prescribed by the doctor, and none of them worked on a long term. Nyastatin worked at first but the rash came back after couple of weeks and when we tried it again it did not work anymore. Ketoconazole did not work at all, moreover made the rash worse.

There are yeast strains that are resistant to treatment, just as there are bacterial strains that are resistant. In addition, a lot of these skin rashes look similar - heat rash, contact dermatitis, etc., plus you're dealing with a post-impetigo issue. Sometimes there are reactions to medications. Remembering that the skin is the largest organ, you might consider really working to reestablish a good balance and some healing from INSIDE, not just topical treatments. Yogurt with live cultures can help in many cases but it's often not enough. You want something safe for children, something unprocessed (or at least not chemically processed with additives or chemicals which can alter body chemistry - which is pretty much anything with a lot of ingredients on the label), something with no warning labels (e.g. nothing like typical vitamins that say to keep out of reach of children!). If you are interested in learning more about cellular nutrition, let me know. There is solid data in food science over the past 25 years (coming out of US research institutions) and also phenomenal new work being done in immune system boosting. I've been to many seminars and training sessions, and I can tell you, it's ground-breaking and well-supported. Sometimes a non-medical approach works best, or at least provides the best foundation for medical successes.

If the yeast cream didn't clear it up then it's not a yeast infection. Often a heat rash will be similar. I think a skin doc should be able to tell what it is.

I had a horrible rash or something on my arm for 8 weeks. It was terrible. Was all set to go to dermatologist. I went to get my nails done when Jackie saw my arm. She took out "Miracle Oil" put out by Earthly Body. Put this on my arm, and the next day, I could just see an outline of where this rash/infection was. I mean it was gone.

My rash began when I was holding my granddaughter in my Rms sleeping. Left her and realized I had all these bumps and itchiness. Thought something bit me. To this day I do not know what it was. All I know is this Miracle Oil was a miracle. I am sure you can get it in a good salon/spa type of place. It would be worth a try. All it is are various natural, oils. I really did not thi k it would help. Even my husband could not believe the difference one day made.

Definitely want to see a skin doc on this one.

*IF* it is still a yeast infection, then I would be pushing the yogurt. Make sure to buy yogurt with live cultures in it and watch the amount of sugar your son is consuming. There is yogurt that isn't flavored, but I personally prefer regular ole Yoplait Strawberry (all Yoplait yogurt has live cultures in it...and yes, I realize that there are natural sugars in a flavored yogurt....the benefits of the yogurt are more important...just watch the other sugary items he's consuming and limit them). Whether it is a yeast infection or not, yogurt is relatively good for you, so it won't hurt him to have a couple of containers of yogurt a day for a few days.

Whether it is another yeast infection or some other rash, remember to put him in breathable clothing...nothing too tight in that area.

Hope you get it figured out soon!
