Writings on the Walls

Hey everyone! I wanted to see if anyone knew any home remedies on how to take off BLACK permanent marker on the walls. Our daughter got a hold of a marker and we have been trying the whole day to take it off and it hasn't. She also wrote on our floors but that one was pretty easy. I think this is harder because it is white walls. So please HELPPPPP!!!! Your ideas will be very much appreciated. Have a good one.

What can I do next?

What about WD40. I think this is good for crayons but maybe it will work for marker too. Good luck

I have heard that hair spray will take permanent marker off of fabric - I have not tried it, and I don't know if it would also work on painted walls.

If you do paint over it, you will probably need to put some decent primer over it first, to keep it from bleeding through the new paint.

Good luck!

Magic Eraser or baby wipes. I have always been able to get it off with one of those. Good luck!

Ahh the wonderful permanent marker! You may have to resort to painting over it. My daughter has a knack for finding the permanent markers. And walls are tricky. I had no luck with the magic eraser and sharpie on the walls. Goof Off can sometimes get it off, especially if it's egg shell or a higher sheen. (That stuff has a strong odor, so I wouldn't recommend it right before bed time, it may give you a headache.). Or save yourself the stress and get the paint matched. If it's a small area, you can try the sample size paint matching and a foam paint brush, it'll cost you less than five bucks, which is less than most cleaners.

I have heard that a cut cucumber rubbed on the wall will remove the marker. I have never tried it but this was a listed use for cucumbers that was in an email that I received. Good Luck.

Alcohol can also work besides wipes and Magic Erasers. Best wishes!

Stacy's furniture has a special pen that transfers the ink and lipstick from whatever is stained to a napkin. We had the unfortunate opportunity to try and locate a solution ourselves when my son decided to practice his ABCs on the back of my leather chairs with a Sharpie...He gets to live another day thanks to that pen!

Tea tree oil, which is available at WalMart pharmacy or health food stores, will clean permanant marker off of just about anything. Dab a few drops of oil on a cotton ball or paper towel and wipe it off. No scrubbing should be required. If the surface was porous, you may have a problem, but if not it should wipe off easily. Just one of many uses for this stuff. It also smells clean and herbal. it is cheap and you should Google it for other medicinal uses. It kills staph infection and is used in many cleaning and disinfecting purposes. Good luck!

Our daughter did that many years ago. After much scrubbing to no avail, we decided to repaint -- eventually it covered after many coats of paint, but we should have used KILZ first.

Try WD-40. I don't know if it will take marker off the wall, but when I tried for hours to get crayon off the walls my mil suggested it and it worked wonders and didn't damage the wall.

I think you just have to bite the bullet and repaint the wall with a Kilz Primer and then your color coat.

I agree with the tea tree oil. HOwever, remember it also removes paint from surfaces so if your wall is PAINTED, it will probably also remove the paint.

It doesn't just dissolve or anything, it will require scrubbing, so just watch as you're applying the tea tree oil to see if you're also removing paint.

Hi J.!

Other ladies suggest the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. Give it a try, but you need to use caution to not rub too intensely because it does a great job of removing marks off the wall but it can remove the paint too!

God's Grace to you,

Lisa :)
