Hi ladies,
Has anyone out there wrapped their stomach after having their child? I know it used to be standard practice and my mom did it with all of us. I was just wondering about other peoples experiences. How long do you keep it on?
Thanks!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for all the advice ladies! I'm going to wrap it up as soon as the little guy is out. I'm not using it to avoid exercise, believe me I've been fantasizing about the day I can put my rollerblades back on. I just noticed with my first son, there was this little pooch on my belly that wouldn't go away no matter how hard I tried. Afetr talking to my mom and grandma I think it's because I let everything just settle where the baby left it. My doctor told me I should only walk for the first month after he was out and that's all it took for the c*** to settle. Thanks again!

This custom of wrapping the abdomen after having a child gives the woman support (that a girdle would give) and also helps to flatten the abdomen. While this practice still works, it is not as popular as it once was and it would be a lot more convenient to just wear a girdle. Keep in mind, though, that this is more or less a way to try to altogether avoid or take short cuts to exercises that tighten the abdominal muscles. It may help, but is will not solve the problem like regular exercies will.

I had a c section and started with Brooke Burkes wrap after 1 week. I kid you not, I was back in my low rise jeans within 3 weeks.....my tummy went back to normal very quickly.

I had a c-section but no one ever bothered to tell me to wear a wrap, now with a soggy lower belly, I wish I had! A Playboy Playmate advised me to use a corset though so I bought something at Mimi Maternity but I guess by the time I started using it (2 months after the c-section), it was too late and my skin stayed soggy. Now I'm trying to save up for a tummy tuck :(((

Never heard of it.
I had natural deliveries with both of mine, and never heard of wrapping after. It must be some sort of cosmetic gimmick to try to get thinner again quickly. I lost my baby weight without any such thing. Of course, here 7 years later, I've gained about 10 pounds that I could stand to lose... lol... but it's not because I had babies... just 'cause once you have kids, other things (besides working out regularly) seem to take all my attention.

If you have a C-section, the Hospital will often give you one, it helps cut down on the discomfort walking around afterward. It also helps your stomach go back to normal, so if you have a friend who had a C-section, ask her if you can use her tummy wrap. I wore mine about 6 weeks (but then, I had a C-section,too).

Hi!

I would highly recommend using a wrap. I had a ten pound little boy and I am very tiny to start with. It did a number on my stomach. I started with the wrap after I got home from the hospital (c-section). I saw immediate results. I have both a "belly bandit" ($40) and a "baboosh baby" ($60) (wrap from Brooke Burke's site). The first is less expensive and runs a little larger. BB is a bit smaller and I have used it since the other one is too large now that my tummy is going down so much. I use it less often now since my baby is 4 months old but I see results. It is easiest to wear it to bed so it doesn't get in the way of sitting down. I wish I had worn it more in the beginning.

i never used one. probably could have. i had a c-section. but anyway that actress/model Brooke Burke swears by them apparently. if you google her name and stomach wrap you might find one. the ones that she uses aren't cheap, but apparently they work. don't know.

T.,
My cousin swore by a thing called Squeem after having her babies...actually c-sections. She said it helped out tremendously.
Let us know if it works.

I did herbal wraps years ago after childbearing. Call a local spa and ask about it. They drench you with seaweed and then wrap your torso with plastic. Lasted for an hour or so.
May not be the same thing your Mom did....this sounds like something women did many, many years ago.
Obviously, there are new treatments available.

if it can help prevent diastasis recti then I say go for it- I have this- diastasis recti & no amount of excersising will fix it- it's when the muscles seperate-
I carried both babies 'high' and my upper abdomen was pushed out and now it is permament- I don't know if this could have been prevented- never asked...

My Mom had this done when she had my older brother (over 40 years ago). Back then she was a tiny size 0, and her relatives wrapped her stomach with what she said looked like Ace bandages...and she was back to a size 0.

Maybe try ace bandages?

Yes, women still wrap, but they are using wraps that are impregnated with ingredients that help shrink the fat cells. It helps tighten & tone the skin right back into place. I personally wrap for my tummy from a hysterectomy, but my clients in the spa wrap after every child. They wear the wraps with saran wrap from 1 -4 hours if during the day and all night....they just have to drink a lot of water.
Congratulations!

Europeans are still very into wrapping. My son was born in Portugal and everyone there just assumed that I would be doing it. I had never heard of it at the time so didn't try it. I didn't find it necessary. Well, after baby number two came along I put that sucker on. It did not make me loose weight faster but did provide much needed support to my belly and back. It does make you look slimmer and that's nice when you want to feel normal in clothes. I've heard that it helps to make your uterus shrink back to normal size more quickly. I'm not sure if that is true or not. Get one that is comfortable so you'll actually wear it. Good luck with baby number two.

I don't believe in all these quick fix gimmicks. That's the problem with most women today."Not to be mean"Most of us take the short way out when really everything just goes back into being active and working out.Your going to need the endurance anyway,so mind as well just work out and gain strength and muscle.

The purpose for wrapping your belly after your child is born is to help you to regain stomach muscles. It's not for weight loss! Your belly has been stretched for months and once baby is out your stomach will deflat like a ballon and I know no one wants to look like that. So what I did after i had my baby I used a body shaper in a smaller size as well as a panty girdle and wore those everyday for two months it really helps.because after my baby was, born my stomach felt as if it was caved in and the girdle helped me to walk around better.
