Would You Say Something? If So, What?

I live in a family friendly neighborhood with a park 1/2 block away. Yesterday, I took my 2 y/o to the park and there was another Mom bringing her 3 y/o and dog to the park. I've seen her before and the 1st time I met her, it was because she had left her dog untied and he ran over to us. I grabbed his leash and brought him back. I'm a large dog owner, and I know they can sometimes get away...no biggie. Well, yesterday, she let her dog poop and left it there. She just watched the 60+ pound dog poop and kept walking. Meanwhile, kids (including her son and mine) are running around.

Like I said, I'm a dog owner. I walk my dogs and never leave the house without a poop bag. Would you have said something? If so, what??

What can I do next?

Ok that's just ignorant. I'm a dog owner too and that's why I have a dog run in my yard because I don't like to pick up dog poop, I let the lawnmower take care of it. I don't think you can say anything now because it's past but what I would do is throw a couple poop bags in the tote you take to the park and when you see that happen again, walk up the owner of the dog politely hand her a bag and tell her you just happen to have one handy since she obviously forgot hers. If she gives you attitude you can simply say that it's a health concern. Your children come to enjoy the park and you would prefer that they not be exposed to animal feces. If she still doesn't get it explain to her that she's leaving you no choice but to contact the authorities (isn't picking up dog poop a law?) and then do just that and let them handle it from there. I'd be livid if I were you so kudos to you for keeping your cool and finding a diplomatic solution.

I just had a simliar experiance. I was with my husband and son at the park. We watched a women do the same w/ her dog. I told my husband to run to the car and get the lady a garbage bag from the car (i have those small car travel bags) He simply said - thought you miight need this. SHe looked a little embarrased - but took it and cleaned up the mess. Maybe have some on hand next time for her. She may get the hint.

I absolutely would say something! I am also a big dog owner and never go anywhere without lots of poop bags. First, she should not have her dog off-leash where children are playing. I let me my dog off leash in a field and then put her on-leash whenever we get close to a park. Second, it is completely ignorant and unsanitary not to pick up after your dog. Some small child could step or crawl in it. I would agree with others that you should offer her a bag. Some people just need to be embarrassed so they act properly.

I would pick it up and take it to her her to throw away and say "You left this behind." and just hand it to her. If she throughs it down I would report her as a repeat offender. I just think it would be funny to bring it to her.

I can't walk by and not pick up others doodles that were left behind. As a veterinary professional, it frustrates me when people do not pick up after thier dog. Stool can contain parasites, bacteria and can cause disease. You most likely already know this, but some are ingnorant.

Give her my name and number if she can't walk her dog properly, we can do it for her.

Good luck with this one, my info is below if you are ever in need of good pet services.

Thanks and have a great day,

Perhaps previous pose of ""Oh, did you forget your bag? I have an extra one you can use!"" would work. It's really ashame how people can't pick up after themselves.
