Would You Complain?

Hello All,
The hospital has a photographer that comes in and takes newborn photos of your baby and you can buy picture packages if you want. We bought one of their cheaper packages, which was still $60. We got the photos in the mail and the quality of the pictures are horrible!!! She was a little rashy on her face, nothing too bad, but on the pictures you can see every little spot on her face bright red. I picked out a cute little blanket for her to lay on and had an oufit to match. You cannot even tell what color the blanket is and the color of her outfit is completely different. Im so disappointed. I plan to get her photos taken by a photographer that I know, but Im mad that we paid $60 for these really bad ones. I know the picture quality could have been better. Would you call them?

What can I do next?

I would and I did. I had my twins pics taken in the hospital and shelled out $180. The pics looked great on-line but when they were printed they werent nearly the quailty I thought they would be, I ended up getting half my money back. Good luck!

Yes, I would. A good photographer will account for lighting and adjust accordingly. It sounds as if they didn't bother to do that. A photographer that spends their time taking photos of newborns in the hospital should be knowledgable enough to adjust for lighting and do their best to get the best photo of the baby possible. This is their job and you paid them to do it and you are unhappy with the results. I would call them.

Babies are SO funny looking when they're first born (mine included, you ladies know all babies look funny when they're days old), so why anyone would want those first pictures professionally taken is beyond me. Yes, *I* took some myself, but for the pros I waited until they lost the cone head, angel kisses, and rashes.

I'd complain, but I still don't understand why people give into the gimick of 'baby's first picture' at the hospital.

YES!! Call them! Tell them the quality was bad, the red/magenta color was too saturated, the crop was too harsh and you want them re-cropped, color balanced and on better quality photo paper or you want your money back.

I would call them for sure. I always hate those newborn photos they take at the hospital, I have never seen one that actually looks good. Both of my girls look dead in their photos, lol!

absolutely! their pricing is RIDICULOUS for the quality of photos they give. our hospital was around $100. so silly. for that price (for 6 photos), it should be really high quality. definitely complain.

Yes, I would call them. We refused to allow them to take pics of our daughter. I chose to go the professional route instead.

They play on the emotions of new parents and it falls just short of being a con game.

Absolutely! We bought them for our daughter and then returned them and got our money back. We had professional amazing pictures done the same week she was born and paid over $400 for them, but they are amazing!! Never do the hospital photo's!!

Most certainly-just because they are at the hospital taking newborn pictures doesn't mean that you don't have a say so in your opinion. First of all I would contact the hospital and find out WHO or WHAT company they have a contract with and let the hospital know why you are asking. The hospital usually contract hire these people-my experience these people don't have a lick of experience in photography. However IF I am paying out money no matter the cost I expect to get something of quality. There are soooooo many programs out there they can do to correct the rashy spots on your baby's face. I would voice my opinion to the hospital very strongly-they might reconsider re-newing the contract when it comes time. Here in Georgia they use I think someone called 360 but you literally don't have to have ANY photography experience to get hired which it doesn't take a rocket scientist to snap a photo of a newborn baby -sounds like they need to upgrade their stuff so they can give better quality to the parents.

I'm sorry your photos were so disappointing. Yes, I'd request a refund, but in the meantime, you might try scanning them in on your printer and using PhotoShop or a scrapbooking program photo adjusting program to fix the color yourself. Or you could make the pictures black and white, which might make them look better. If they're not copyrighted, or if the hospital allows you to make copies for your own use, you can try taking the bad photos to FedEx/Kinkos or a similar place and use their photo printing system to fix the color and other problems. It's very inexpensive to print a good photo there.

As a professional photographer I would want someone to give me a chance to make them happy with their photographs. I have had pictures I have taken not turn out well so I usually say something and offer them another session or their money back.

Call them. Give them the chance to make the pictures better. They may not be able to. It could have happen in the printing process. The worst they can say is no....

I sent a message to the company and they refunded me my money when this happened. In my daughters case, there was someone's huge thumb with bright red fingernail entirely covering the lower portion of the picture. Not funny! I ended up just printing some off that we had taken and using them.

Are you complaining because the photographer did a bad job? Or because they didn't touch up the photos to make her look absolutely perfect without any blemishes?

We had photos with my eldest daughter where the entire tone of the photos was yellow tinted. We complained and it did no good because the replacement photos they sent? Were exactly the same as the first ones. It was a problem with the camera itself or the lighting or something. We didn't have any more hospital photos done with our other daughters after that. It's all right. It was only $65 ten years ago.
