I'm still trying to decide the furniture color that would go and or the paint color for the walls. Since there is a tanish cermaic tile with gray specs in the dining room and the kitchen is all white I really have to plan this carefully. Can anyone help! :) Thanks so much.

What can I do next?

Sure. for the walls, I would probably go with something close to the tan in the carpet. Same with the furniture. Use the colors in the rug to pull colors for throw pillows, accessories, etc.

We actually bought a rug and returned it the same day because even though the rug was very good it didn't look all that great in our living room. The rug was darker shade and we bought it because we thought it would compliment well with the wall color. But then our couch is a dark shade too , so we decided to go with a different one.

I personally feel this would look ok on dark gray carpet. It goes better with hardwood floor that they have in the picand with cherry brown..But since you are yet to buy furniture and paint the walls , it should be fine. I would go for a lighter color couch with pillows in darker shade. Also blinds for the windows can be little on the darker side too - maybe one of the colors in the rug. For walls , I prefer lighter shades as the room will look brighter - I would go with tan.

I think it would go fine, particularly since this and your carpet are all neutral colors. Neutrals kind of go with anything and you can still add just about any accent color(s) you want on pillows, other decorations, accent wall, etc. Happy decorating!
