Hi ladies! Talk about bad timing, my husband and I have been without health insurance for 4 years and been very fortunate to not have any emergencies. This past weekend, I had a gallbladder attack and my work provided insurance starts in 10 days! I am controlling the pain with pain killers and a very strict diet with the knowledge that I need surgery as soon as possible. Anyway, I have talked to my insurance to get the ball rolling so that come August 1st, I can see a doctor right away. So, I am hoping some of you can give me some recommendations for a family doctor at Kaiser Sunnyside. From there, the doctor will refer me to a surgeon. I would prefer a family doctor that is good with kids. We have been so bumped around with doctors thru OHP and doctors in other states before we moved here, that I am thrilled with the fact that my entire family could possibly go see one doctor with no other worries. I have 2 small children, 4 and 2, both in great health. I would prefer a female doctor as I haven't had a annual exam for 2 years. Someone with good bedside manner is going to be necessary as my husband is overweight with other problems and the doctor will probably address his weight right off the bat.

So, please be as specific as possible as to why you do or don't like a certain doctor. Specific experiences would be great to hear. Also, if you have any gallbladder advice, I'd love to hear it! Thanks so much!!

What can I do next?

I got to Sunnyside Kaiser and my general practioner doctor is Dr. Christine Choo and she is the nicest lady and puts you at ease. Very comfortable to talk to. My 2 boys ages 5 and 7 also go to Sunnyside-Mt. Scott and we went through a few pediatricians there before finding one we absolutely adore named Dr. Patricia Campbell. The kids like her and her nurses even when they need shots and are fascinated with her slight Irish accent.

good morning,
and Good luck w/ Kaiser. I have been w/ them for almost 10 years. And I would suggest scheduling an appt today! As it will take 6 weeks to get your 1st appt started. and don't think they will just send you to a surgion right away either. Kaiser is OK if you do not need to see a doc regular.
again, good luck...and they will probably just give you a doc that is accepting new patients..:( go to KP.ORG, you can look at all the docs and see for yourself who is accepting

I hate to sound dire but I wouldn't make the appointment until you are officially insured. If the insurance company gets wind of a pre-existing condition, you're going to end up footing the bill for this and anything they can tie to this particular issue in the future. If your symptoms worsen and you can't wait until a scheduled appointment, go to the ER on August 1st and have it dealt with. So sad that we have to live with these medical care realities in the supposedly "strongest" nation in the world. Just watch "Sicko" and you'll know you're not alone. I'm just glad to hear that your family will soon have the financial protection that we all deserve.

Hello J.,
I know exactly what you are going through, about 5yrs ago during an ice storm my husband had to take me to the emergency room at kaiser only to be told I need emergency gallbladder surgery. My Surgeons name was Andre La Sage, my doctor at the time was Guy Whitehead but I quickly changed due to misdiagonsis, I went to doctor Joel Auslander. I am not sure if he is still with Kaiser because we lost our kaiser insurance shortly after that due to my husbands new job. I hope this information helps you, like i said I know exactly what type of pain you are going through. One thing I learned from the ultrasound tech is when you are in pain lay down and put your right arm over your head and this will help relieve the pain.
