I am interested in making a homemade baby book. I haven't really anything like this in a long time and never a baby book and the idea of it is to be something special for my second child to see as they grow up. I'm not sure how to go about it though....any idea's? I don't know gender of baby yet so not sure if I'll wait until next month to make it when find out or get started soon and do it neutral. Sorry if this post sounds stupid but looking for you scrapebooking mama's to help me out here. What should I use as binding? Something to hold it together if I three ring punch or should I just use a binder? Not sure what to use as theme either. Any (polite) input would be great, esp if you've done something like this before and thank you! :)

What can I do next?

If you visit a scrapbook store all your questions will be answered! They have books to choose from, usually with top-loading plastic pocket type pages you put the page you've created into. There will be all kinds of paper and stickers and other embellishments to choose from as well as lots of tools to help you get the look you want.

A word of caution though. I started doing full-on scrapbooks for my kids starting with my first and then with my second. It became so exceptionally time consuming and expensive that I recently stopped scrapbooking all together.

Now I use shutterfly to create books. Shutterfly has their books where it's just like scrapbooking - you can manipulate the page however you like, and it's MUCH, MUCH faster and less expensive. I'm doing my daughter's 5 year and my son's 2nd year right now and enjoy it much more.

One comparison and what finally prompted me to stop with all the scrapbook stuff - I went to the scrapbook store and bought one book, the plastic page incerts and enough paper/stickers etc for two holidays for both my kids. The cost was $80, and I was dreading sitting at my table cutting all this paper and doing it twice (one book for each kid). That's when I decided to stop and look at Shutterfly. Right now my Shutterfly book is at $110 and it's an ENTIRE year of activities, including many, many extra pages for a wedding our whole family participated in. Not to mention, Shutterfly often has great promotions, and I'll let my book sit and buy it when they are offering 40% off photo books. I expect to pay about $80 for the WHOLE book, compared to $80 for a binder and two holidays worth of materials.

I'd just suggest clicking around in Shutterfly before buying scrapbook stuff to see if it's what you are looking for. Also, I bought adhesive pockets to keep some mementos in that would you expect to put in a scrapbook, but we also have a scanner so I'm getting copies of most of the stuff on the pages themselves.

Anyway, you clearly hit a cord with me with your question and I'll stop typing now! :)

Go to Michaels, Hobby Lobby, a local scrapbook store, or even Wal-Mart and Target have scrapbook supplies these days. I always buy mine when they have sales and then you can get a pack of paper, some cute stickers, and an adhesive. You don't have to go crazy with supplies but it can get expensive. You want it to last if you're putting the effort into making it, so make sure your adhesive and paper are acid free so they help preserve the photos. There are a TON of online scrapbook sites for ideas of themes and page layouts for inspiration.
I hope you have fun with it! I love to scrapbook!!

I have made scrapbooks out of binders. You can get a big 3" or 4" binder with a pocket in front. The bigger they are, the more stuff you can put in and it will take up less space. I would go to the scrapbooking section of Michael's, Hobby Lobby, or JoAnn's to get ideas for decorating it. I do the colored sheets, words, embellishments for whatever the occasion is. As far as a theme goes, how about starting it with the theme of your nursery as the front cover? You can get all kinds of stickers to put on a sheet and place it as the front cover. Me, I would probably put a picture of the ultrasound and the baby's name under it with the birthdate and year. Get some plastic sheets to go in the binder and then you can put in pictures, poems, cards, or write your baby some sweet notes. Make a section for the lock of the baby's hair (some even do the umblical cord). I recently bought a baby scrapbook set and started a new scrapbook for my son. The set is great because it comes with many different items. Once you get going on it, you will be bombarded by ideas:)
