My daughter is almost 14 months old. She is sick alot (ear infections, Colds, etc...) She has food allergies to berries and oranges. Now she keeps getting this VERY strange rash on her particular. It is on the outside of her particular nothing inside at all and only on her particular not on her bottom at all. It is not accurate to call it a rash but I dont know what else to call it. It is about 30 red bumps. There will be nothing one day then it will be everywhere the next day. When we get it cleared up she get one spot that is very red scaley about the size of a dime that takes three or more days to go away. This cycle has happened twice. First time the doc said is was strep B and put her on Amoxil and it went away the the dime sized rash came up and three days later it went away. We used two perscritpion creams to get the dime sized rash away. So then the 1 month later she got an ear infection and the 30 red bumps came back on her particular. She was on Amoxil for the ear infection so I took her to the Doc right away and he said it was a yeast infection. He said it looked different but it didnt I am her Momma I know. Anyways we contimued Amoxil and then we used the antifungil cream and it went away. Now the dime sized rash is BACK!!!!! I have been putting the cream on it that made it go away before and it is doing nohting. We have let her go without a diaper we have used only sensitive wipes then wam wash cloth then water only we have tried every diaper pampers is the only one that does not give her a rash on her bottom.I feel like everyone just keeps guessing. I have made her an appt with a Derm but he cant see her for a week. Has anyone had or seen anything like this before. I am tired of everyone guess and it going away and then it coming back. I just want to know what to talk to the doc about. Thank you all so much. God Bless!!!

It sounds like a yeast infection. Antibiotics can cause them. It also can cause adults to get them. Don't give her antibiotics unless absolutely necessary and use some vagisil cream around her vaginal area to help the infection.

I actually second the idea of getting her off and keeping her off the antibiotics unless they're very very necessary. The reason why I'm saying this though is because as a child I was given amoxicillin all.the.time for ear infections. Now as an adult, amoxicillin does virtually nothing for me. I have to get the big guns for antibiotics whenever I really do need them.

If its yeast, yogurt can help. Make sure it says that it has active cultures in it.. You might also be able to get her on a probiotic, but ask the doctor first. Lotrimin has always helped when my DS has gotten a bit of a yeast infection, but I've known kids through daycare that needed much more than that. Definitely take pictures of the rash before going to the derm that way if it clears up they can see what it looks like, where it is etc.

It does sound like yeast. One of my daughters had this when she was a baby. They perscribed a cream and it worked. I am sorry it was years ago...i can't remember the name of it.

yeast is what it sounds like to me. my son did the same thing. take off of juice and no sugary foods at all. I had to put mine on almost a diabetic diet to get rid of it. brown rice wheat bread etc. no corn all this turns into sugar. I fought this for almost 11/2 yrs and the perscriptions didnt work. if you make koolaid use splenda. watch what she eats and what is triggering it. I bet it is the sugar that is triggering it. my sons would go away for about a week or 2 and come back. when I put him on a diabetic diet he has been clear since. if you need more info message me.

This sounds like a chemical reaction due to diapers or wipes. Which brand are you using? Pampers is currently undergoing investigation for rashes similar to the one you describe. I would recommend switching to cloth to see if it goes away or using a safer brand without dioxin such as Earth's Best or 7th generation.

I agree this sounds like yeast. My daughter also had quite a few ear infections and the antibiotics always brought it on...and it is so hard to shake. The doc gave us topical cream and it helped, but as soon as it seemed to almost be gone it would sprout back up again. Finally she prescribed an antifungal (by mouth) in addition to the cream. I am sorry I forget the name. But we tried the same - airing her out without a diaper, etc. That yeast is a tough one to conquer. We just kept at it and eventually when she was off the antibiotics for awhile and we kept on the anti-fungal it eventually worked. The yogurt is a good idea too. good luck.

You could ask for Nystatin for yeast, and see if that helps when you use a full course. My own daughter had a rash that nothing would touch, we switched to cloth diapers, tried everything prescription, etc. She had also been on lots of antibiotics. Her vagina and her bottom were BLEEDING with open sores, and she would scream in pain - this was at 10 months old. Then the ENT suggested we take her off dairy for 2 weeks to see if her ear infections subsided. They didn't, but the rash went away like magic in 5 days. So it turned out that she had a dairy allergy (and at that age, it doesn't usually show up in a blood test, so elimination is the only sure way to find out). Even now, at 2.5, if she has too much dairy, she gets patches of eczema on her face. I'm a believer that if something is showing up on the skin, it could likely be caused by something internal going on, so it's important to find the SOURCE of the rash, not just treat the rash itself.

Antibiotics are terrible for children with diapers. It is a necessary evil sometimes. What most doctors won't tell you is that long term or repeated use of them will rot their teeth too. I vote that it's yeast. Once yeast gets a foot hold it does come back often. Getting her off the antibiotics and keeping her off as much as possible will eventually help. Yogurt helps, lots of water only rinse baths followed with letting her air dry. The anti-fungal should be put on air dried skin as often as possible and then your favorite diaper cream on top of that.

Have you tried giving her Culturelle at all? It is a probiotic that is great at helping to clear up yeast. It comes in a capsule that can be opened and poured into a spoon of yogurt or bite of food.
On a different note, has any of the doctors mentioned that it could be a staph infection? It's pretty common for children to get staph infections in their diaper area. Just though I would throw that out there. Good luck and God bless!
