Work from Home

I have a 5 month old son, and recently found out that I am pregnant again. This was completely unplanned and so I am unprepared for two babies (I also have two older children). As of January I will have to quit my job because paying for two babies in daycare wouldn't be worth going to work for me everyday. I am just wondering if anyone knows of anything that I can do from home (i.e. medical billing etc) that someone has had personal experience with and not just read about in the paper. I do read magazine and such for work from home ads but am pretty skeptical about them. I have an associates degree in Graphic Arts and am currently an Art Manager at a Publishing company for the past 5 years. I don't have to do that type of work but anything that would make some money.

So What Happened?

I want to thank everyone who replied to my "work from home request" so much. All of the responses were so helpful and I am still taking them into consideration. I would've thanked eveyrone sooner, but didn't know about this global "what happened" response. I unfortunately had a miscarriage and am considering staying at my current job. I believe all things happen for a reason and so we'll see whats to come for my family and me.

Hi, I don't know of any clerical type jobs, but I'd be interested in one too, if you get any info ;-). I am an AVON Independent Sales Representative and love it! It's only $10 to join, and you can choose to have parties or not, it's up to you and the time you have available. If you'd like more info, just let me know, my email is ____@____.com care,

hi, im H. in batavia. i am the QUEEN of work at home jobs, so when i saw your request i HAD to write back to maybe try to help!! especially with a little suprise on the way, youre right, its more affordable to stay at home with the kids these days!

hmmm...
i see youre a graphic artist...can you design websites? let me know if you want some side jobs, i did mine and everyone asks me to do theirs but i dont have the time so id love to have someone to refer them to, thats good extra cash.

if youre looking for a steady, more "clerical" kind of job, try www.workathomeagent.com
basically you answer calls and enter orders for places like home shopping club, pizza hut, etc.. my motherinlaw is an accountant, and one of her clients does this and makes good money, she's always trying to get me to start too (which is how i know about it) but i have too much going on to commit to being home at certain times

if you like people alot and dont really want to have to "sit at home" all of the time you should try a home party kind of business, too, that way you can get out of the house a few nights a month or something. i do it... right now i sell partylite candles, (www.partylite.biz/heather577 )& cookie lee jewlery (www.cookielee.com) and thats been going great for me.... i put the websites if you want to read more about it and of course email me anytime with q's... i also have friends that do mary kay, pampered chef and princess house crystal too, so if any of those are more your bag, let me know ill tell you who to email

OH! i also sell isagenix health products, too(www.heatherslittlesecret.isagenix.com) im not too huge into it, but so many people started asking me about it, (ive lost 14lbs so far!--all i hear is ARE YOU LOSING WEIGHT!!?? WHAT DID YOU DO!!! WHATS YOURE SECRET!) so i figured why not! and started selling it just to make enough money to pay for my own stuff. so if you know alot of people looking to get healthy or are really big into stuff like that, you may want to try it (its pretty easy, not too much committment)

if i think of or hear of anything else ill let you know!

good luck with the baby!

You're situation sounds so familiar, but I don't have the older kids. Let me just say that I don't know of the job that will work for you, but if you find it please SHARE with me because I'd love to do it too!!! My first son is now 30 mo. and when he was 6 mo. I found out I was expecting again; the baby is now 13 mo. I was working full time and still am. I changed jobs after maturnity leave was over with the second because I was commuting too far (Orland Park to Schaumburg)-but now I'm working as a sales rep for ILL, WI, IN, and may have just picked up 3 more states. So now at least my milage is paid, but I still have 2 kids in day care and I'm working harder than before and making less if you can believe that. It's not worth it. So, sorry I can't help with the answer to your problem, but it was nice to vent my issues with someone who's soon to be in the same boat. I hope your older kids are able to help out a little, or a lot. It's tough, but they're worth it.
Congradulations to you and your family.
S.

While I have not had luck with this, you might be able to ask if you can make your job a WORK from home position. Or even Partime position, as Graphic Arts might lend itself to that. I know a few people who have done that, or ones who have gone on to do Freelance work based on their "former" career. The problem is that you have to work at getting jobs. I am also interested in working from home to be more available for my kids.. so I will be watching your topic!
