I have 2 children ages 2 1/2 and 8 weeks and am going to need to get back to working soon to supplement my husband's income. I used to do medical records and transcription before we moved from out of state three years ago, but I was would like to do something else from home if possible. Are there jobs out there that pay descent from home where I wouldn't have to sell anything? Or, is it better to work outside the home even though I would have to put both kids in daycare, which seems soooo very expensive that I'm not sure I would break even.

What can I do next?

Hi! I work from home and I LOVE it! I had my son in daycare when I was teaching high school, but I hated it everyday. I started working from home in May and it was the BEST choice I ever made for my family. I do not sell, I don't have inventory, and I do not collect money. I would love to help you work from home! Check out my website: www.behomewithfamily.com for more information. I am looking forward to talking with you soon!

Hi TS. I know EXACTLY how you feel! At the beginning of 2006, after staying home with my son for a year and a half, my hubby and I decided that I would need to start working again to supplement his income. I really did not want to put my son into daycare. So, I tried some WAH type businesses, and nothing seemed to be worth my time, or much fun, or even very interesting. I had worked in Public Relations/Corporate PR for six years prior to having my son. The other issue I had was that I had recently moved to Texas from Oregon! So, I didn't know anyone, and I certainly didn't want to do any parties...because I didn't have anyone to even ask to host! Anyway, my now dear friend, Holli, asked me to try her skincare samples. So as a courtesy, I decided to try them. After using them one evening and morning I could see an incredibly improvement in my skin. I decided right away to purchase the products. I had several friends and family members begin commenting on how much better my skin looked. I started telling them about what I was using, and they started trying it too! Now, I'm working a parttime business with Arbonne International from home, and I love it! I have now matched my income that I was making when I was working fulltime in Corporate America. In the last 10 months since starting this "little" business, I have won bonuses, Tiffany and Co. jewelry, Coach handbags, vacations to Can Cun, Mexico, and countless other rewards and cash! I also am so excited to say that I am in qualification to receive my FREE white Mercedes Benz from Arbonne! That is their car program. I work on average about 15 hours per week, and get to stay home with my son. I would absolutely love to share more about this amazing business opportunity with you. If you think you might like to do a little research for yourself, please feel free to visit my website at: www.mandyolsen.myarbonne.com or www.arbonne.com. I'd love for you to try some samples or something. We could get our kiddos together for a playdate and chat if you like. My son is also 2.5 and loves to meet new kids. Just let me know. good luck with everything!
Take care, M. O.

Just a word of caution - working at home does not mean you won't need childcare. This is a very big, very common mistake. Unless you plan on doing the home party business thing (which it doesn't sound like you want to), then pretty much any work at home job you find will still require you to focus, in other words, without tending to your children. In good news, you can always find someone like a high school student or something to come in while you're there. But it is highly unlikely oyu will find something where you can enjoy eht best of both worlds - SAHM and Income. They just aren't that compatible. And personally, I think that's so wrong - somehow, SAHM's should be paid a salary - government money or something. But anyway. The few things I can suggest to supplement income would be like eBay selling, homemade crafts, etc. - these don't require time commitments so could be done without childcare.

A good rule of thumb, income wise, is $25K. If you make less than that, it's usually just a break even, once you factor all the little things in such as meals out, clothing, gas, etc. So keep that in mind when trying to make the decision.

Good luck!
