I usually use a swiffer on the floors weekly but Im looking for something for a "deeper" kind of clean if you know what I mean. I just dont know whats out there so if anyone has any kind that they like please let me know!! Thanks in advance.

Target has there "method" line of products that do not use chemicals so it is safe for the kids and pets. They have wood floor cleaner and it has an almond scent. I like it alot and makes the room smell really good. I never have to worry about my girls walking and/or crawling around !!! Hope that helps.

E.,
Vinegar and water is really the best to use on your floors. Vinegar is a natural disinfectant - it does a "deep clean" that you're looking for, and is completely safe around animals and small children. You can even mix it up and keep it in a spray bottle (1/4 cup vinegar to 1 quart water). After you sweep or vaccum, spray your floors and mop with a microfiber mop. I personally love these things! I owned my own cleaning business for five years, and they were-and-are the only mops I use. You can take the head off and machine wash them to use over and over again (cheaper in the long run than Swiffer - no replacements). It's also a good way to do quick touch ups if you keep a head on the mop handle and your spray bottle ready!
Have fun at the party!

I just got a bissel steam mop. We have concrete floors in our loft and I needed something to really penetrate the porous surface. I read that it is safe on sealed hardwood floors. It sanitized and only used distilled water to clean. No Chemicals at all!!! You can use tap water, but it wears out the filter faster. I have a little crawler who stops occassionally to lick the floor. I used to mop and mop and it never seemed to come clean. Now I can actually say that it is clean enough to eat off of. I really like my mop and the fact that it doesn't use chemicals is definately a plus.

I use Murphy's Oil Soap. It's especially made for cleaning wood and the oils in it help to treat the wood.

Vinegar and water - I swear by it! We have wood floors throughout our house (except kitchen, bath) and I do a 50-50 mix for a really great clean. If you're worried about vinegar damaging your floors (which would likely take a long time and lots of use to happen), you can go over them with plain water afterwards. I was amazed the first time I used vinegar - the floors are so shiny and there is no residue, not even when we wear white socks! I also use a mop with a microfiber cloth that goes right in the washer.

I use vinegar and water. It's simple, cheap and green. If you can't take the smell... which I personally like :)... you can use Murphy's Oil.

I was excited to read some of your responses because I am getting wood flooring this winter. I did want to tell you that I received an email this week about Swiffer. Their cleaning product contains a chemical that can cause liver disease in children and pets if ingested even in small amounts. (One family lost two pets in three months--the pets walked on the wet floor and then licked their paws and died). I would use another product if possible or at least keep your baby and any pets away from the floor if it is even a little damp. Good luck!

When we moved into our new house I did a lot of research on hardwood floors. Vinegar will eventually strip the urethane or wax coating on your hardwood floors and possibly pit the wood.

Never use "orange" cleaners...they will really mess up the coating on your floors as well.

I use a product called "Bona". YOu can find it at Westlake Ace Hardward or Bed Bath and Beyond. I use their Hardwood floor cleaner. They also have a refresher and a polish. The refresher is for older floors and the polish is for newer floors. IT's enviromentally/kid/pet friendly.

THey have a great website that talks about their products. http://www.bona.com/en/US/Country_Start_page/

Good luck!!!

When I want to really clean my floors I use Woodwise. I have had two wood flooring independently recommend it. If I want them really clean I get down on hands and knees. This has been happening less and less as my kids are older and I have less time. I used to use Murphy's oil soap, however in my later research I found that if you want to rescreen in the future do not use any oily or waxy products including this one. Rescreening is the process where they redo the top finish without totally refinishing the floor. It is cheaper than refinishing. However, my philosophy lately is that when I deep clean my wood floors for a party, they get dirty within 15 minutes unless you ask your guests to remove their shoes - a good option if you are comfortable with all your guests. I can't even get my parents to do this most of the time.

I use the swifer for a quick clean up but it does leave the streaks. I currently use Zep wood & laminate cleaner and love it. You just spray it on the floor and mop it up (I use a microfiber mop). You can either dampen the washable pad on the mop or just do it dry. I've also used the Pledge woodfloor cleaner and it did a good job but I was going through it fast. The Zep I found at Home Depot and it comes in a spray bottle for $5 or you can buy a gallon of it for $10 and just refill the spray bottle. It last a several months and I have three kids so my floors get cleaned alot plus I clean several houes.
