No, she does not need it if she doesn't like it. Try regular oatmeal or malt o meal or giving other foods with iron. So sad that the baby food industry makes everyone think that babies NEED their products. I usually used baby cereal just to thicken some foods I made (or jar foods) when they were a little too thin. Don't know if you made it with breastmilk or formula but that's an idea. As long as she gets her iron from somewhere else it's not necessary.

Mine never would either. The only thing I made sure of was that he was getting enough iron. I did use a little cereal to thicken up some of his other foods so they wouldn't be so runny and so I wouldn't waste it and he would eat it like that.

GOOD! You have one smart baby. Cereal is PURE carbohydrates that turns into sugar in the body. With the high incidence of diabetes in this country, I'd say cereal is not a good start, but veggies are...then add in protein and fruits. If you start with fruits, she'll probably never learn to like green veggies.

Mine won't eat cereal either. No biggie. As others have said you don't have to give cereal. I believe the reason they suggest it for the first food is cause it's easy in their stomachs, low allergy risk, and has good iron. We use the single grain oatmeal. She likes that....and gives the same results as cereal. Also, are you mixing it with breastmilk or formula? I accidentally mixed it with water once and she was not happy! :) the face she made was hilarious! Giving it (cereal or oatmeal) with bm or formula helps give even more nutritional value, and helps with the taste- they are used to it. Another suggestion- make sure it's runny enough for her to swallow it...as well as help with constipation. I added a little prune juice sometimes eveN.

does she need it yet? my daughter did not take solids til 7mos. We waited until she could sit up on her own, indicating a stronger core and therefore gag reflex. Then to get her to take pureed foods, we did like avocado and steamed (then we pureed) beets and peas.

I wouldn't worry to much about the cereal. Some babies just don't like it. As long as she is eating fruit and veggies, plus her bottle she is getting what she needs. Not sure what type of cereal you are trying, but usually dr's tell you to start with rice, but there is also barley, oatmeal and whole wheat too. I would I stick with the rice for another month making it thin added it to fruit. Fruit is easier on the tummy. Then try oatmeal cereal, which most babies enjoy. Hang in there! Babies change their taste buds just like us big kids.

She doesn't have to eat cereal! All cereal is is empty calories for her to fill up on it has no nutritional value. Be happy she doesn't eat and give her a fruit or veggie instead.

There is no rule that she has to eat cereal. Have you ever tasted that stuff? Its terrible, I wouldn't eat it either. Feed her fruits and veggies instead and try cereal (maybe oatmeal or something other than rice) again later if you want, she may like it, but if not its not a big deal.

You know...some babies just don't like the taste of paste! It is OK..she will survive. Fruits and vegetables are better for her anyway.

she doesnt neeed cereal. in fact other than the fake vitamins they put in it there is nothing good in that box. are you nursing her? if you are shes doesnt need fake vitamins. mist countries serve meat as a first food. please dont let Gerber dictate when and how you feed your child. remember there was a time were Gerber didnt exist and people lived just fine

Non of my children ate cereal. They all hated it, so they went straight to baby food. She doesn't have to eat cereal, it isn't essential at all. Just continue to nurse her and feed her the baby food she does like.

I agree, try oatmeal. My son wouldn't eat the cereal at first either. He still won't eat it plain. I mix a little oatmeal into all his fruits and a little rice cereal into the veggies to thicken them up a little. It makes it easier for him to get the food off of the spoon. So far so good. If your daughter doesn't like it though, it's not a big deal. Also, remember that it takes several "tastings" of a new food for a baby to decide whether or not they like it, so keep trying! Good luck!

mix the cereal in with the jar foods, that's what I always do. Also try oatmeal instead of rice cereal.

And she does NEED cereal! It has the iron them need whereas the foods don't. According to the USDA after 6 mos old we are required to feed cereal to the infants twice a day.

I mixed our cereal with apple sauce. She still didn't like it though. I started letting her self-feed some gerber puffs and cheerios at 7 months. She was completely on solids and breastmilk by 8 months.

What kind of cereal, are you giving her? Oatmeal is great to try. It has WAY more nutritional value then rice cereal.
