Just found out that my baby (second preg)is breech (standing) at my 20 wk ultrasound. I know I have a long ways to go, but just wondering stories from you all about if and when your breech baby turned. Could you tell for sure when it happened? Not worried...just curious!

What can I do next?

Actually I experienced the opposite. My daughter was head down at the ultra sound and then just before I went into labor she went breech. I did feel every bit of it. It was as though she was doing gymnastics and I was waiting for her to come out my stomach.

B.,

At 20 weeks, your baby has TONS of space to move! Don't worry at all. My baby (now 7 weeks) was still breech at 30 weeks and had plenty of time/space to flip.

Right now your baby is probably still doing summersalts in there :)

My nurse midwife didn't even worry about my son's positioning until late in the pregnancy, like around week 30, maybe even later. My son wasn't breech, but he was laying on his back, so that his head was on one side of me, and his feet on the other. My midwife told me to go to the Spinning Babies website and look at some of the stretches and exercises listed.

I did the "inversion" technique off of my futon (with my husband's help!). I never felt my baby move or any weird sensations, but when I went back to my midwife, she said it felt like my son had moved into position. A real quick ultrasound confirmed that he had!

One thing about babies getting into position early in the pregnancy is that they can float away into a different position, and not stay there.

I have also heard good things about chiropractic care and turning babies.

our last son was breech until literally the day before i had him. we had an ultrasound and scheduled a c-section for the next day, they didn't want me to go into natural labor and have to do an emergancy c-section. (mainly because i go very fast... with our last baby i had to be taken by ambulance and wasn't in the hospitial more than an hour and she was here it was only a 2 hour labor) when i got in there they did another ultrasound and he had flipped during the night sometime. i didn't even feel it he was an 8lb.2oz baby. so instead since i was in there they induced me. so i wouldn't worry, since the baby is breech they will do another ultrasound when you get closer to the delivery date or if your body starts to show signs of early labor.

good luck and enjoy the little one, they truely are such a blessing!

if it gets to the due date, try acupuncture. It works. I used acupuncture to induce my labor when I was 12 days late & scheduled for induction. It doesn't hurt and is non-invasive.

My oldest was in a breech position most of my pregnancy, a transverse lie.... where if he would have stayed that way, his shoulder would have presented first.

My doctor showed me a few stretches I can do to help turn him, and he remained in a transverse position until I was 37wks... I was at the grocery store and I got horribly hot, nauseous, and felt faint and shakey. It passed as quickly as it came, and the next day at my appt he had turned. I totally believe that my weird spell at the grocery store was him turning.

ANYWAY, google 'stretches to turn breech baby' and you will find those stretches that I did.

Hi B.,
First, congratulations! I don't really have any advice (except don't stress about it), just my experience with a breech delivery. I, like you, knew my baby was breech at 20 weeks. Nothing to worry about, so I didn't, and finally on my 36 week appointment my OB told me baby was head down. Yay! But 4 days later my water broke while I was sleeping. We got to the hospital a few hours later after contractions picked up and we soon found out my son was breech. What?!?! I was beyond surprised. I delivered by c-section soon after finding out. Not even close to my desired birth plan, but my son and I were healthy and it was over.
So, either my OB was incorrect when she said he was head down at 36 weeks or he flipped sometime in those 4 days. And if he flipped, I didn't realize it or feel it that I'm aware of. I was feeling movement, but nothing that seemed like a 7lb baby completely flipping over. Maybe it happened while I was sleeping and didn't realize...

Anyway, that's my breech story.
Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy!

First of all don't stress out. There is plenty of time to turn. Second of all Congratulations!
I took a Bradley class and they have you get on your hands and knees and do pelvic rocks. This got a number of the babies in our class in the correct position. Google Bradley Childbirth or check out a book from your local library. The rock is easy to do and feels fine.
Good luck and enjoy the rest of your pregnancy!
