So I am really excited because my boyfriend and I get to go out alone for dinner for the first time in over a year. It just so happens that my friend is going to watch my daughter and celebrate her valentines day the day after. Anyways I am pretty excited because this will be the first year we will be celebrating valentines day together since we have met 4 years ago. So I'll get to the point... I am wondering if anyone knows of a good place to eat. Money isn't really an issue (not tonight at least) and we both enjoy all types of cuisine. I am kinda leaning towards Korean food but I am open to other suggestions as well. I woud prefer to stay in Mpls. but whatever works. I appreciate any suggestions- K.

What can I do next?

Campiello---italian food that is simply unbeatable--the ambiance is romantic and the service is impeccable. entrees will range in price from $12-30. Same owners of damico and sons--my husband and i go for every special occassion and have eaten most entrees and have never regretted trying something new.

K.,

You might have trouble finding places with available reservations. Check out opentable.com. You can search for places with available reservations and make the reservation from the site.

Good luck and enjoy your evening out!

Have you tried the Melting Pot? It's a fondue restaurant and the food is EXQUISITE!!! You start with a cheese fondue, served w/ bread, apples, & veggies. Followed by a salad--I recommend the mushroom salad. Then you choose a main meal (a big platter of different types of raw meat & veggies that you cook yourself, bite by bite, in a bouillon at your table). I'd recommend the dinner for two--plenty of food for you both and a better price. The kicker is DESSERT!!! 20+ different types of chocolate fondue to choose from, with a platter of dipping goodies like cheesecake, brownie, marshmallows, strawberries, pineapple & banana. It's a great romantic dinner because you'll be there at least two hours, slowly enjoying your food. It's right in Block E, I think. Check it out!!!

I second Chino Latino! The atmosphere is really fun and the food is FANTASTIC! Like the other person said, they have food from all over the world. They also have really fun specialty drinks. I had one that was served in a pineapple!

We LOVE Macaroni Grill-if you've never been there, it doesn't sound like much, but it is great! They serve Italian-we've never had bad or even so-so food there. The one we go to is located in Rosedale mall-again, not sounding like much, I know. But, the atmosphere inside is really nice. The bread they serve at the start of the meal is fabulous. The servers sing in Italian for birthdays and anniversaries (and they sound good!)so I would not doubt they have soemthing special planned for V Day. There is even an Italian language lesson playing over the intercom in the bathroom! :0) Whatever you end up doing, it will be great because you get to do it together.

Try Indian food. There are several around town. I could recommend 2-3 for you. Or, try D'Afgan in Bloomington. Not too many people have tried Afghani food and it's really good, has been around forever and has it's own following. I could give you directions because it's not easy to find.

There is a great place in Uptown called Chino Latino. They change their menu every day and the have menu items from all over the world. My husband and I went there for our anniversary
and we loved it. The atmosphere is up scale funky I guess. Attire, any thing you want, If you want to dress up go for it, if not, nice casual will work too. Price is around $13-20 per dish, but I suggest sharing so you can taste a wider variety of food. It is across the street from Calhoun square on Hennipen.
I would make a reservation. Have fun with what ever you do.

If price is not an issue, here are some 5 star places you could go. Great cuisine if you can afford it.

Manny's steak house
The Oceanaire
Itchiban's Tapenyaki and Sushi
St. Paul Hotel Dining room
Forepaughs in St. Paul
Window's on Minnesota in Mpls

I've been to all of these places and some of them a few times...and they have awesome food at each. If you like sushi at all, Itchibans or even Saji ya n St. Paul is great too. Expensive though, but worth it! :)

Have fun.

Sorry I don't exactly have a different restaurant suggestion. The Melting Pot and Benihana are always fun! However, please, oh PLEASE find somewhere you can make a reservation ASAP. You haven't gotten a chance to go out like this for quite awhile and I don't want you to be disappointed that you cannot get seated in a restaurant on Valentine's Day without a restaurant or a REALLY loooong wait. Hope you have a great time!

I reccommend Chianti Grill. It's not in Minneapolis but it's so worth it. Our anniversary is on the 25th so we're waiting to go out until then and that's where we're going. I LOVE it.

The best restaurant in Minneapolis by far is Fugaise. It is a bit more expensive, but is amazing. It is mostly french, and is a small menu. Don Saunders the chef owner is the best chef in town. You can check it out online www.fugiase.com. It's very romatic!

If you are looking for something less expensive, the Birchwood Cafe in Mpls is doing a yummy valentines day dinner. They do as much local and organic food as they can. you can also check them out on the web. good luck and have fun!

One place I've enjoyed has been Tony Roma's in the Mall of America. It has an Italian-sounding name, but it's not an Italian place ;)

They've got burgers and chicken and I think steak, and maybe even ribs, I don't remember the whole menu, but the food's pretty good. I think most entress are under $10. Last time I went they had even started giving out these kind of large warmed towelettes after you eat :)

Ichiban downtown. It's where my husband and I usually go on our anniversaries. Last time we went early (better price!) and because it was a weekday with fewer early reservations, we sat by ourselves. Which was nice and not as loud. But it is more exciting when the chef deals with more food.

My husband tried Benihani with people from work. He said it's a lot larger and therefore louder. So I'll try that sometime too, but I'd rather chose something small and quiet.

I've had a few friends who rave about Melting Pot and how surprising it is to really fill up on little bites of food.

If you like Korean food, check out Kings Restaurant in Fridley. It's right off Central Avenue, north of 694. It's better than any of the places in St. Paul.
