Hi, I am a SAHM. I have often thought about opening my home for inhome childcare. I have a great house for it and a very large play area. I have never really looked into all of the details involved. Recently I met a lady looking for inhome childcare for two days a week. This sounds ideal to me. Does anyone know what the going rate is for inhome care. I have heard some people charge 125-150 per week. I am wondering what is normal to charge per day. I have a very safe and fun house and I would include food (I buy the good stuff - mostly organic and whole grains etc). Please help me know what I should charge. Thanks!

What can I do next?

I have heard the going rate is $25-30/day depending. I think for part time you would probably go with the higher per-day price, but if you found anyone full-time you could go with a weekly rate. So $30/day or $125/wk. There are in-home daycares that charge more, or less, but that is pretty average.

Are you still considering offering in home care? If so, I'm looking for someone to watch my 7 month old on Fridays from around 7:30 to 5:45 (sometimes 4:45). Where are you located in the East Valley? What do you charge?

I have done childcare mostly for friends. I charge $30 per day. You have to factor in your time, food, craft supplies, time preparing crafts, time preparing educational stuff, etc. Full days are usually between 9-10 hours a day, so that puts your rate at $3 per hour. I think your friend will agree that $3 an hour is a great deal!

Good luck!

Hi M.!

I am in home child care provider and I have been doing it for over 5 years. I charge $25.00 per day regardless of hours. I have heard of others that charge more but it has worked for me. I also include food but I did start recently asking parents to bring in a gallon of juice and a box of snacks once a month. If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask.

Good luck!
M.
