Where is the cheapest store that you have found kids winter coats? The cheapest I have found is $37 at walmart and they look more like a jacket than a coat.

What can I do next?

Used clothing stores/consignment shops. I haven't spent more than $12 on a winter coat in years! And we've gotten some very warm coats in wonderful condition, including dress coats.

Consignments shops and thrift stores.
My kids are small and never grew too fast so I always bought big and got a good 2 to 3 years out of each coat. :)

It's been awhile since I've been in the market for a child's winter coat. If you're really on a strict budget you might want to try buying used at Good Will, Salvation Army, Savers, etc. I've donated coats in the past that were excellent condition.

I've found cheap at Walmart. They have a cheap line they come out with early and go fast. I bought one of my sons a reversible one red/blue with hood for $9 or $10 last year. They're not as heavy but really, how thick and warm do they really need to be? My kids have always gotten too hot with the thick ones. They're hard to stuff in a locker or cubby too. Check online at Walmart.

I got my son really nice winter coats at the thrift store for the past couple years. Both of them were columbia coats. They are usually like new. If you watch for the winter stuff to start coming in you can get great deals. usually the day after a federal holiday lol. our thrift stores have huge "everything in the store is half price" sales on labor day, memorial day, 4th of july etc. then the next seasons stuff comes out

Wherever you buy one, make sure that you can't feel your breath through it. The ones at Walmart didn't pass the test. I'm going to look at a resale shop and they have some cute ones on Khols.com for $30, but I'd have to see them in-store to see if they would be warm enough.

Look online at ll bean and lands end in their clearance sections! Also, if you have a large Salvation Army outlet near you, this is the best time of year to buy coats there.

I don't know where to find good (but cheap) winter coats, but here is my advice. Buy one from Lands End - not the 3 in 1, too expensive - but the ones that are about $60. I buy them big and my kids wear them for at least 2 years. The ones we bought last year will probably fit for 3 or more. It may not work for this year, but look at their Overstocks towards the end of winter. Good deals on really good coats.

Burlington Coat Factory - toddler coats start at $19.99. If you don't mind gently used I try consignment sales or secondhand stores like Once Upon a Child

Try ebay. I did some searching for another mom and got her two snow pants for $35.

I don't know what size your kids are and if they are a boy or a girl - I have extra coats from last year...we live in D.C. and we can get pretty darned cold...inbox me if you would like.
