Winter Boots for 1 Year Old?

Hi Moms,
This will be my first winter with a baby in the Midwest. I have a little girl who is 11 months old and already walking. She will turn 1 at the end of the month, and I was going to ask for some winter gear for her birthday. My question is this -- I thought that at this age, soft leather shoes were best (shoes like Robeez and Pedipeds), but it doesn't seem like they will stand up in the snow. What do you put on the feet of a 1 year old that works for the snow?
Thanks for your help!

Something waterproof would be desirable. But the truth is, it is no likely that the one year old will be out playing in the snow for an extended period of time. At least that was my experience. I would suggest going to Target and get something inexpensive.

I recall my little ones couldn't even walk yet in winter boots at one, yet alone newly one. When my eldest child turned one in November, I made the mistake buying boots that were never even worn. I would look for some very light weight.

I agree with other moms here that your best bet is to buy them resale and keep your cost at a minimum. You'll never get your money's worth out of them at this age.

Honestly, I bought only Pedipeds for my daughter and she was an early walker as well but I did not feel they would stand up to the snow, either. For the past 2 winters, I have bought her boots at Target and have no complaints. Her feet were never wet and the boots held up well.

I just got the stride rite snow boots from my mil the other day. She got them one size bigger than she is now, they wont need them until around December. I was going to pay the 35.00 for new ones, but she found last years style(a darker pink than this year:O) at Marshalls for 15.00 cheaper!! Try tj maxx or marshalls, even Burlington coat factory. Youll find great name brand boots for a steal!

I agree with Susan, the boots I bought were still new when winter was over and they can't be worn next year since the feet grow so much in that time. Unless you are really an outdoor person and plan on taking your little one to sledding or something, regular gym shoes or cheaper boots should be fine.

THey grow out of them so fast. I would check out a resale shop like Once Upon A Child, or check out Target they have inexpensive ones. My kids school in Downers Grove is haveing a resale this weekend. Its at Indian trail School on Stonewall off of 63rd. If you want more info on it email me
