I would love to start working out again (it has been 10 years!). Does anyone have good or bad experiences with the Wii Fit? It sounds like a great thing, but hate to invest the money if it is not all that!

What can I do next?

I like it. In fact, two of my friends come over 2x a week and all the kids play while we do it together. (Now, the system will only "track" one person at a time, but we just do the things that we can do together, like the stepping and aerobic exercises. We don't care if the system tracks us on these days. We are still MOVING and scheduling the time together is FUN plus motivates us to DO IT!)

If you are just starting out working out again, I'd highly recommend it. The fun aspect is motivational, plus the cost is WAY less than a gym. I'm NOT motivated enough yet to get up, get myself and my son ready and drive to a gym daily. I'm just not. But this I can do. For me, it's great!

I have wii Fit Plus and I love it as a game. It is fun. You will get a little workout. But to really get a work out with some real results, you really need to go with something a good combo of cardio like walking/running and some strength training. wii Fit Plus is a good add on.

With that said, I love it. The kids love it. The husband loves it. Summertime it didn't get used much. Winter time we play wii fit instead of laying around and watching TV. It might not be an intense workout for us, but it is better than laying around. As I write this I am thinking I might put the computer down and do wii fit right now.

I don't know if you can even get wii fit now or if it is just wii fit plus. We started with the regular and upgraded to plus. Way worth it.

I like Wii Fit; but, it all depends on what you put in to it, how hard you work yourself, but I think it's a pretty good tool to use in monitoring your weight and as a supplement to your exercise. I did use it for almost all of my exercise in the winter when it was too cold to go outside, but when the weather is good, I like to go walking or jogging. I lost 15 lbs using the Wii Fit about a year and a half, in conjunction with walking or jogging about twice a week. Not a whole lot, but there were ups and downs, and I didn't always use it regularly and I don't always eat like I should!

Wii sports can also be a good workout. At first I didn't like the boxing, but now that I've played it more and am better at it, I can work up a sweat quick!

I also got the EA Sports Active and I feel I can get a much better workout with it. It's easier to make custom workouts, plus they already have a lot of good pre-built workouts to choose from. But I still like tracking my weight and workouts with the Wii Fit. So I'd suggest trying the Wii Fit and if you feel like you need to up the intensity try another game like EA Sports Active.

I love the EA Active a lot better. I don't have to have the board (which my husband is still just over the weight limit for), I can customize my workout to what I have time & ability for at that point (take out ones that strain my knees, etc...), and each of us can track our workouts in our little journals.

Like any other plan: walking, running, going to the gym, dieting--apparently you have to do it regularly for it to work! I can tell you from personal experience that just having it produces no results! LOL
BUT if you DO commit, I think you can get a workout with it.

We have it and it's fun...but for me personally it didn't keep me motivated.

I haven't tried the new wii shape i think it's called-ours is about 2 years old...if I had to do it over again I don't know if I would spend the $500...but if you can find it on craigslist for cheaper, it's a fun alternative to add to your regime once in awhile. The body mass indicator part is neat though and it helps you track your progress.

I just recently got the Wii Fit because I thought that was the thing I was most likely to do every single day. I wouldn't walk outside every day in any weather. I don't want to go to a gym (and pay gym fees). I've only had it about a week, and so far I like it. I warm up with a couple of balance exercises, do some of the aerobic activities like the step program or island cycling or whatever, and after I've hit my 30 minutes, I'll do 2-3 yoga poses to stretch and cool down a bit. I don't know that I've lost much weight yet, but I feel much better about it now that I'm doing something about it. And I do feel like I'm starting to get a little healthier and like I have more stamina now. Most weight loss works best with a permanent lifestyle change. I think I could do Wii Fit or something similar for 30 minutes every day for the rest of my life. I don't think I could go to a gym or walk every day for the rest of my life.

Nah...I wouldn't get it. It is more of a novelty than a way to get into shape. My advice would be to start slow. Get out there and walk first of all. And then get some workout DVDs or get them from On Demand if you have that service(ours has all of the popular workouts for free). Give the Jillian Michaels 30 day shred a try. It will be hard for you at first but it is a great workout and it is only 22 minutes. I would also add a flexibility routine. The 10 minute Yoga dvds are awesome.

Prevention Magazine always has great and detailed advice on workouts. I like them much better than Womens Health and Shape. And they show you how to divvy your time and how to start slow and then work up. Maybe check out their website also.

What I like about Wii fit: It gets my family moving, when normally we are pretty much sedentary. It also is fun, because the game has stretching/yoga and aerobic exercise, but it also has games to increase your balance and help you move.

What I dislike about Wii fit: It doesn't seem to get your heart rate up for a very long period of time. I mean, it tracks a 30 minute workout, but I wasn't really working out with any good duration of time. Also, the little Fit Board character can make a little groaning noise when you get on ( which makes me wanna fling it across the room), and it shows your weight and BMI to anybody in the room.

I like Wii Active much better. It tracks duration and calories and tells you if you aren't doing the moves right.

I started working out with the Wii Fit Plus last January. I was overweight and way out of shape. I used it for about 2 months. It gave me the jump start I needed and I lost 20 lbs using it daily for 30 minutes (7 days a week). Of course I changed my eating habits as well - the weight loss wasn't all the Wii Fit's doing! lol After that I braved joining a gym and met my weight loss goal in August of MINUS 78 lbs! I've gone from a size 24 to a 12 and had to sell all my 'fat' clothes. Anyway, since I joined the gym in March I have not used the Wii Fit since. Was it worth it? Hmmm yeah for me I'd say it gave me my start. BUT you can also do without, I could have exercised to any home video or went outside and walked or jogged. Though the Wii Fit Plus is FUN and that is a plus. Good luck.

Personally if you are concerned about spending the money, try setting a goal like walking for 30 minutes or more and if you do it reward yourself with the WII fit or I have the WII personal trainer. It has yoga, cardio and helps you set goals. You don't want to buy something and be discouraged and stop. If you have kids, have them go out with you. Saves on babysitting and worry.

I love my Wii Fit and so does my husband. I like it because you don't have to do the same exercises everytime. It makes it interesting and fun. And as long as you use your muscles and don't just go through the movements, it gets your heart rate up and burns calories. My son just goes through the motions and it doesn't do much for him. But, my husband and I have great success with it. He has actually lost 20ish pounds using it. It is also great in tracking your weight and bmi (you can create a password to keep everyone else from looking at that, if you want -- I personally leave it open for extra motivation ;). If you look online (www.wiifitroutine.com), you can tailor your exercises to what your goals are and the difficulty levels you would like.

As for the cost. The one time cost is a whole lot less than the month fees for the gym or membership clubs. And outdoor exercising has a lot of excuses that can keep you from doing it. Then, the stationary bikes, treadmills, gazelles, etc have too much of a boredom factor for me.......same thing day in and day out. ;) But, if you are using the Wii Fit, and you decide you want to run outside today, instead, you can still track it in the Wii Fit as your day's exercise to help you keep track.

We have a wii fit, but I don't use it enough to comment on it. The exercises have me breathing heavy, but they are short. I think there's a way to string them together, but I haven't checked it out. I would say that it is fun and you will get a workout - especially if you are starting from the beginning again.

One lower cost way is to join Netflix and they have workout videos to rent and also videos to stream to your computer (or wii) You can look at their selection without joining.

A free way to start exercising (besides walking - *don't* underestimate a brisk walk!) is go to sparkpeople.com and check out their video section. It's a free site and you can even join a community and get support for starting an exercise plan. Again, it's free with no strings attached. (I joined)

Good luck! Exercise is so good for you. Congratulations for getting back on that horse, so to speak.

its fun but I wouldn't call it a work out. We got ours on craigslist the wii, fit board, 2 controllers, and 3 games for $75 :) couldn't justify spending all the money it would cost at the store if you are going to pay full price you might as well just go join a gym.

I like our Wii Fit. As do my kids. We haven't used it in recent months due to summertime and outdoor activities, but we use it a lot in the winter. It breaks up the monotony and gets us moving. My kids who are 5 and 6 love the hula hoop game, the running course and hte ski jump game. They also love trying the poses.

i love the wii fit! it's so much fun. we didn't buy ours just for me, though. i home school my youngest son and we thought that would be good for his gym class. so we take turns on it. makes it more fun that way too! we also have active for the wii. that's a more rigorous workout than the wii fit, but not as much fun :)

Well...to go against what everyone else is saying - I love our Wii Fit. I bought the original one, and then went back and bought the Wii Fit Plus game when it came out. Now, if you by it, I think it comes with the Wii Fit Plus - which has all the original plus all the new games. There are games and there are workouts, strength training, yoga etc. Then after you have the Wii Fit balance board, you can buy other games that use the board too. We have a ski game that we love and I am planning on buying the new Wii Sports Resort game. It has lots of fun games like surfing, fencing etc. We love to play the games as a family and work out with it on my own with the yoga and strength training exercises. Now all this being said about how much I love our Wii, I do not believe it is enough on it's own. When the weather is nice, I ride my bike. When it's too cold or raining, I'll "play" the Wii for 30 mins or so. It's a great way to get the whole family together and up and moving!

I LOVE my Wii Fit Plus! I can't wait til we move in a few weeks so I can have room to play again! :)

You can do individual exercises, or you can personalize your own workout that will go straight through the ones you select. I like having "someone" to count & tell me what to do LOL I don't do well on my own :)

And the games are fun too! I get worn out before want to quit playing haha

It does have free step aerobics, where you can turn the TV to a show instead of watching the Wii stuff. The remote "ticks" to keep you in step & you can step for up to 30 mins this way.

It's fun but I wouldn't consider it a work out. It's nothing like going to the gym. I don't regret the purchase though. The whole family has fun using it.
