My kids have so many toys and i dont understand why they dont play with them. When they do they are either breaking them or throwing them all around. Sometimes they do nothing but fallow behind me everywhere. There doesnt seem to be enough time in the day to get things done; im so behind on laundry and ive missed scheduled appointments. I runaway from my issues cause its so much , i didnt think i would have to be on my own doing this. I dont even know where to start anymore. Help

What can I do next?

I'm not sure how old your children are, but if they are not playing with their toys are are breaking them then pack up the toys and take them to a children's shelter where they will be loved. As far as not getting anything done, first make a schedule of what you want to do and when. Then make a list of chores that they kids can do (dust, vaccuum, sort and or fold laundry, clean their bathroom, etc) then assign the chores to them. My girls are 6 & 9 and they have to make their beds everyday and clean their bathroom every weekend. They are also responsible for cleaning up after the dog as well as washing his dishes and feeding him. They love to dust with the static dusters and can both unload the dish washer as well as rinse and put their dishes in it. Remember that your kids will most likely not do the chores that same way that you will, but that's okay. I have often touched up that bathroom mirror later or put clean dishes in the right place (not infront of the kids). Even the yougest kids like to help out.

Maybe they have too many choices. My 22 month old gets overwhelmed with his toys sometimes so I choose a few for him and set them out. Depending on the ages of your kids, tossing toys around might just be how they play at that age. It can definitely be frustrating when my boys (I also have an 8 month old) put toys everywhere and I feel like all I do is pick up after them.

I have started asking my older son to help me put his toys and books away and he likes to help. He also has a kid's Dirt Devil vacuum that actually picks up small amounts of dust so whenever I vacuum, he follows with his vacuum. He also likes to wipe tables with a sponge. I'm hoping that by taking advantage of eagerness to help at a young age that I will set the groundwork for my kids to help me out with housework as they get older.

For your older kids, just explain to them that while they might not have been expected to help out before, that you are getting overwhelmed and you can't do it all by yourself. I would suggest a chore list and if it's feasible maybe a small allowance as an incentive. Just make sure you don't delegate away all of the duties. I remember coming to resent my parents as a teen because my sister and I did ALL the chores while my parents would watch TV, go out shopping, or go out to dinner. Worst case scenario, if your kids are unwilling to cooperate, you might consider restricting some privileges (going to the mall, sleepovers, staying up late).

Hello, You hit it right on the nail, so many toys. We had the same problem for a while. We took like half the toys a way and store them. In about tree months brought them out and they play with them again like they where new and we took the other toy away. It is like christmas every three months.

Hi M.!
Try taking a few toys (2 or 3) AND PUT THE REST AWAY! It sounds like there are so many toys that they can't focus on or appreciate what they have. Remember that children get overwhelmed very easily. Once a week switch the toys out, and bring out 2 or 3 different toys. By doing this, the kids will be more attentive to the toys they have, you'll have less clutter to deal with, and the kids will feel like they always have something new!
