Why Do You Love/hate Your Mattress? Anyone Have a Saatva?

I hate our mattress. I have for years! We have a Sleep Number (plain jane one) that we have had for about 12 years (however, the bladders are only 6 years old since they were damaged by the movers when we moved and they paid to have them replaced). I wasn't happy when we bought it, but my husband was crazy about having one. The first night I slept on it, I woke at said "we paid $XXXX for THIS?"

I swear that even if this bed crippled my husband, he would have "loved" it - he simply was not going to be wrong about this purchase no matter what the cost. However, now with the bed's age, and with his age/issues, he can no longer claim that this bed is the "bee's knees." Sadly, he wants ANOTHER Sleep Number bed - one that has Sleep IQ, raises and lowers, etc., etc. I'm just not having it. We are NOT spending $7,000 on a bed (unless it is a Duxiana 818, ok, not even then - as much as I love that bed, we still couldn't afford it). Simply outside of our budget.

I was looking at a Saatva. The price point is great and the reviews seem to be good. Apparently, their return policy is very good. However, buying a mattress that I will never even sit on until it is in my home is a little scary. Does anyone else have a Saatva? How about other brands that we could look at? Although the Saatva I like is about $1300 (which I feel is reasonable for a bed), our budget top end is about $2750. We aren't afraid to spend a goodish amount of money for something that we spend 6 hours a day on, but we don't have a spare dime to waste so it is important that whatever we get actually works for us.

Tell me your good/bad mattress experiences - I'm all ears :)

Thanks!

I think I would avoid memory foam. All it does is create a dent where you usually sleep. I don't have any other real suggestions.

I'm not familiar with the ones you mention. So can't comment on those ..

I do have a Simmons mattress. One of their nicer lines (or it was at the time, it's now about ten years old). It is "plush" and has a pillow top.

Why I love it. Well, I'd tried several mattresses and never slept through a pregnancy. This one I have is so comfortable, I slept through my remaining pregnancies. No pressure points. Not too soft. Comfy.

Here's how I know it's good. We give up our bed (sniff) to all our guests because we don't have a guest room currently. They have all switched to Simmons with their next bed purchase.

I didn't have any issues with ours and I bought Simmons for our kids (not as nice a line, but their basic sleep line for them). They have all been good - no issues. No sagging, etc.

** I should add my husband also finds out bed comfortable. We used to like really firm mattresses until he tried this one. It's just as supportive but the plush just makes you sink a tiny bit. The individual coils work for us because I toss and turn in my sleep and he doesn't wake up.

Hope that helps. I should write their ads :)

I've never heard of a Saavta.

I have a Sleep Number ( middle of the road one.... Not the cheapest and not the priciest). LOVE it.

The only thing I would change would have been to spend more. We originally spent about ($5000), and I do wish we had chosen the model similar to the Sleep IQ with options to move it up/down and the thermal pad that would cool or heat as needed.

Ours is only 2 years old and I plan to keep it.

habitat furnishings. we have a all natural latex matterss. with a natiral cotton cover. no chemicals. we recently purchased a soft topper to go on top and i love the support, love the fact that its chemical free. and that the week before i ordered my bed it was sap in a tree. they harvested the sap without hurting the tree and made my bed. when i am done with it they will melt it down and reuse it. they also have a 365 day trial period. which if i was not satisfied i could of sent the matterss back our bed cost about 1600 and i would do i again if i had to.

I can't see the brand of my mattress because it is zippered inside a cover. It is a regular pillow top mattress that we selected by laying on every mattress within budget in the store. With that, we had to find a mattress that fit both my husband and my needs.

I thought the mattress was a little to firm and didn't give enough, so I topped it with memory foam. My husband was a little annoyed and said it was like sleeping on a marshmallow. Now that we slept in enough hotel beds, he claims that I spoiled him with the way I set up the bed everything else hurts his back.

I have never heard of Saatva either. I watched the video and they make changing the sheets look like a family game. Perhaps you should be compensated for sharing the information to 100's of mamma's.

We have a Lifekind mattress. It's an organic rubber latex mattress and it's fabulous. We spent around $2500 on it and it's the nicest thing in our house and worth every penny. Look it up!

I've never heard of Saatva so I had to look it up. It looks promising -- I might look into it in the future! Do they have a store? For me personally, I don't feel comfortable buying a mattress without actually seeing/feeling it.

Currently, I have a King size Simmons mattress that I love that was purchased for just over $2,000.

ha! we're in the opposite camp. we've got a low-level sleep number, and for me it's been just the best. i'll always be a toss-and-turner, but i've found my number and sleep better in this bed than in most others i've tried in decades.
but my poor old dh, who has back issues, just can't find the right number. at first he was super-happy with it, but now he wakes up every day in pain no matter where he's got his side set. so we're in the same boat as you, not able to spend thousands and not sure how to resolve our sleep issues.

We have a Kluft. I have been waking up so sore and stiff, and I think it is partially related to the mattress. My husband thinks the mattress is okay. For the money, I would not recommend Kluft. I know other people love them, but they are way overpriced and not the comfortable sleep experience I expected.

I am now curious about the Saatva, but like you, would be hesitant to buy a mattress without being able to see and feel it first. Then again, in person tests don't always get it right, either. Some mattresses seem fine in the store, but when you actually sleep on them for an entire night, it's a different story. Would really like to know if anyone here has tried this mattress.
