Moms I really need some help. I am always so tired. I've been to the Dr. and he says I am in good health and just try to make myself get up and go. I get up every morning and get my kids ready for school, take them, then return home. I do my house work the usual, dishes, laundry, vacuum, you know the drill. After about noon its almost impossible to do anything. By the time I have to get my kids I feel aweful. I am so worn out and tired and all I have done are some simple everyday chorse. Its so hard just to take them to practice or a game or anything. I need some ideas on how to help myself. Please tell me.

What can I do next?

I have a similar problem. Some women are more tired then others, so I have started to take a 30 min-1 hr. nap when I feel tired(sometimes once a day, sometimes never). Also I have started to work out and it makes a huge difference as well. Another thing is are you getting restful sleep? Or do you wake up often (husband snoring, children?) You might think you are in bed long enough when in fact you are not sleeping soundly.

I'm 29 and had the same problem. My doctor put me on Wellbutrin and I have been wonderful ever since. I have no idea why it appears to give you more energy but it works. I guess it just helps you get out of bed and get moving.

I've always heard vitamin B6 is really good for energy and metabolism. Maybe you should try naping before you have to go get the kids from school. They say a little power nap can go a long way.

Hi, L..

I'm sorry you're dealing with this.

I agree with Michelle, if you haven't had your TSH (thyroid) level checked recently, it would really be a good idea.

I was dealing with something similar about seven years ago (I couldn't stay awake after 3 pm), and I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism.

It's common in women -- and often goes undiagnosed -- but it's very easy to treat. I take synthroid (one pill every morning) and it works like a charm. You just have to get your level rechecked every six months or so (a simple blood test).

If you haven't had your TSH level checked, please ask your doc to do so.

Hope this helps!

You have hit my soap box! I was a highly energetic person until my first pregnancy - and taking naps then was sort of normal. But three years later...I was as you have described - except I DID take naps for 18 years...had to in order to make it through the second half of the day.

I did all the things the other moms have shared with you to no avail. They kept upping my iron amount, taking a walk did not help, etc. etc. I finally was led to alternative medicine where I learned I need to change my diet (mostly no white sugar and white flour in the beginning - and not much now) and to take vitamins. But that led me to another issue...not all vitamins are created equal - many on the store shelves are not quality enough to make a permanent change. Do you know that porta potty people say that you can actually read the names of some of those vitamins they find when they clean the screens??

I also for a time was spending big bucks on vitamins from a natural doctor - and found out that they were not dissolving where they should either...they showed up in an xray one time... whole in the lower bowel!

I have a vitamin story that you need to read before you spend money on vitamins. I'll send it to you privately for it is long.

Hoping only to enhance your life...J.

I share your pain! I'm a "stay at home mom" now. I have the same basic stuff to do that you do, and I feel the SAME WAY. This is the first time that I haven't been driven by and employers, teachers, or my mom since I was 14 year old! Plain and simple, it is due to a lack of stimulating mental and physical activity in your day. I find that on days where I study my Bible, and go for a good walk up to town or around the neighborhood I feel SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much better. I know that if I could discipline myself to keep it up, my problems would be solved. Every other day for the exercise isn't going to cut it. Give it a try and see if it helps!

Welcome to the club...before my son was born, I owned my own clothing boutique, and bartended @ a club fulltime. I worked out everyday...I WAS NEVER TIRED!
Now that I have been through the hormonal changes of pregnancy and breastfeeding, I am soooooo exhausted. I have no sex drive. I still workout, I take a great amount of supplements (no time for naps), eat really well...I do everything I am suppossed to!
My Dr (all of them) just say welcome to motherhood. I fall asleep rather early at night. When I wake up in the morning with my 2 year old, it's like I blacked out. I never remember half of the prior day.
You should try, I know it's hard, to squeeze in a workout. There is a drink called REDLINE. This stuff is really strong. Try to drink only 1 ounce per hour for your first few times. You could over do it easily...
Let me know if you get any results or solid advice. I too would like to feel human again!!!
Good Luck

I have been going through the same thing. It sounds crazy but we just started working out and that has really helped me. I still have to stop and take time for me every once in a while during the day. So for that sometimes I atempt to fold clothes while I watch my favorite soap or I will sit and play a game on the computor. Also my husband will take me out on a date. We dont go but about once every three months but it really helps me relax and feel better for a while. I hope this helps

Has your dr. checked your Thyroid? If the level is abnormal that can be a main cause of tiredness/fatigue. You may have to go to an Endocrinologist rather than the regular Family Dr. Hope this helps & feel better.

I do not necessarily have any advice for you, but I am 32 with 2 year old twin boys and am EXHAUSTED all the time. I've done a lot of research, as I've also gone for a physical, ruling out a thyroid problem or anemia. The only thing I can really say is that when you are sleeping, your sleep is not adequate because of the daily stressors that spill over into your nighttime rest. Also, you may be suffering from some form of season depression, which occurs when you don't get enough sunlight (but I was also exhausted in the summer). This is just some food for thought. I commiserate completely. But it sounds like you are on top of things and being a terrific mom and wife. Good luck.

Girl!! Of course you are tired. I have two small children and I feel your pain. The best advice I can give you is to make sure that you are eating healthy. I eat six small meals a day that consist of lean proteins, veggies, fruit and low cal dairy. It helps. I can tell when I do not eat as I should. I do not have the energy that I would normally have if I slack. Good luck.

You could be suffering from depression, I had the same exact symptoms when I was depressed. I went on some medication (Lexapro) and the energy came right back.
Or another option could be a vitamin deficiancy. You might want to start taking a mult-vitamin or at least a B-12. See if that helps, if not, then I would go back to the dr to discuss your options about depression.

It could be your diet or just your bodies way of saying "hey, take a break". Im not sure. But if you have a couple of hours take a nap. It wont hurt anyont if you took a siesta after the household chores are done. YOu will feel better for you children and evening when Im sure things are crazy. Try the nap... you may need it.

one thing about being a stay home mom is that it is 24/7 there is never anytime off. This adds to the exaustion. "The Drill" gets tiresome and you need a change. take a little of that afternoon to do what really makes you feel good, it can be anything reading a good book, taking a walk, getting your nails done. just take a little time for you and make it happen a few times a week! it is amazing how pampering yourself can energize you at the same time! you really deserve it!

Try taking some vitamans and getting some exercise, exercise will give you energy as weird as that sounds, and if its depression it will also help with that. just a couple of rounds of walking around the block will help.

I think that vitamins will help. I agree that walking will boost your enegery to, but i know that you don't wanna do anything so make yourself.. Depression could be another thing to. You could be depressed and not even know it. That will make you not want to do anything.
Good luck

Hi L.-I have had a good response from an injection my doctor calls a pink lady. I think it has B12 and some steroid in it and I am not sure what else. I know they only give it to women and you can only have one every other month. My doctor is in Chattanoga. Anyway, it gives me energy among other things. Call your doctor and ask about getting one. Their great.

Good luck,

Loreena,

Did your doctor check your thyroid level? I was having the same problem and FINALLY, the doctor's nurse practitioner ran the simple blood test. I opted to take the prescription meds, however my friend (age 35) opted the holiopathic method. To be honest, she felt better faster HER way ... but we are both feeling much better now.

All I can add to the advice already given is to make sure you drink lots of water. I went to my doctor with the same symptoms, and had the same tests run, and it came down to the fact that I didn't drink enough water. So make sure you are drinking all that your body requires!

Your body is obviously telling you something. So try changing ur eating habits and taking daily vitamins. Your body is probably not getting enough fuel to make it through the day. Eating breakfast, wether it be a protein bar or some cereal try eating something to keep u going. Also try a 30 min nap while ur kids are away...maybe even 15 if u cant spare 30. Taking short naps instead of long ones does ur body better. Wether u do 1 or all of these things I bet 1 or all of them will work.

Hi L.,
I am a stay at home mom of a 5 and 7 year old, a grad student, an education specialist and wife. My daughter is a Daisy "girls scout" and my son plays sports. I take Ultra B12 in liwuid form by the company NOW. You can get it from a health food store; it helps my fatique. Excercise and naps help also. Try to lessen your load with the house work, you will not receive a prize for the tidiest home (I used to think so) Make a plan, laundry on Mon and Wed, dusting on Wed., bathrooms on Thurs, etc. You don't have to be super mom. Take care of yourself

Did your doctor check your iron? I went to my annual exam in June feeling pretty worn out myself. They tested my blood and I was a little anemic. I now take a daily iron pill and do my best to exercise in the mornings before the family wakes and it gives me quite a bit of energy to make it throught the day.

Good Luck

I went to the dr and they said even though I didnt realize it I was depressed and my antidepresant had quit working. they gave me a new antidepressant and it worked but after taking it for a month they told me the insurance wouldnt pay for it any longer so they switched my meds again and I am back to being tired all the time.
