Hi, I'm looking for a good whole wheat waffle recipe. Let me know if you have one that you have TRIED and LIKE! (Don't just send me to a website that you googled just now....I can do that!!). Also, does anyone know if you can make any waffle recipe in a belgian waffle maker AND a regular one? Does that matter? Thank you! Can't wait to make waffles topped with yummy Summertime berries!! I'm 34 weeks pregnant and HUNGRY!! :)

What can I do next?

This is my FAVORITE waffle recipe of all time. It calls for all-purpose flour, but I'm sure you could switch out the white flour for wheat flour and it would taste fine.

Buttermilk Waffles

2 large eggs
1¾ cup (14 oz) buttermilk
½ cup butter, melted and cooled
2 tsp vanilla
1¾ cup flour
2 Tbsp sugar
2 tsp baking powder
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp salt

Beat eggs, buttermilk, melted butter, and vanilla. In another bowl combine dry ingredients. Combine wet and dry ingredients just until smooth. Cook in a waffle iron.

This is another waffle recipe I really like. Again, just switch out the all-purpose flour with wheat.

Yeasted Waffles

Ingredients:
½ cup warm water
2¼ tsp. active dry yeast (I use instant – either is fine)
2 cups whole milk, warmed
8 tbsp. unsalted butter, melted and cooled slightly
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. sugar
2 cups all-purpose flour
2 large eggs, lightly beaten
¼ tsp. baking soda

Directions:
Combine the water and yeast in a large mixing bowl. (If using active dry yeast, let stand to dissolve 5 minutes before proceeding.) Add the milk, butter, salt, sugar and flour to the bowl. Whisk until well blended and smooth (you can also use an electric mixer.) Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and let stand at room temperature overnight.

When you are ready to make the waffles, preheat the waffle iron. Preheat the oven to 200˚ F and place a plate in the oven. Just before making the waffles, whisk the eggs and baking soda into the batter until smooth. The batter will be very thin. Fill waffle wells and cook according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Cook until crisp and golden. Transfer finished waffles to the warmed plate in the oven while you cook the rest of the batter. Top as desired with butter, syrup, etc.

Yield: depends on the size/shape of your waffle iron (I make a half batch for our family of three)

I hope they work for you!

We've used this one in my family since before I was born. I've done it in a belgian maker, it just works better if you add more water so the batter is not as thick.

2 c whole wheat flour
1/3 c sugar
1/2 t salt
4 T baking powder
1/3 c powdered milk
~ 2 c water
1/3 c oil
3 eggs.

Mix dry ingredients. Put in about 1/2 the water, mix till blended, then slowly add more water until desired thickness. Add oil and eggs and mix well. Cook like normal waffles.

We love it with a slice of cheese between 2 quarters of waffle to make a good sandwich. Also great with syrup, fruit, or whatever else you like to put on waffles.

There are 2 fabulous recipes in the cookbook:
Sharing Mtn. Recipes

Both I have made using WW flour and they are to die for and I get requests for them often. Perfect with fresh fruits and a dollop of frozen yogurt!

Sharing Mtn Recipes also has an easy delicious Buttermilk Pancake recipe that is a keeper. No child has yet to turn one down!

Sorry its not homeade, but I buy Hodgson Mill whole wheat buttermilk pancake mix, which of course could also be turned into waffles. They are really yummy!

If you want tender waffles I recommend whole wheat pastry flour. With that you can use any recipe and use that flour without turning you baked good into a hockey puck. This flour works great with anything that uses baking powder or soda. It is not recommended for yeast baked goods. Good luck !!! PS my mom always made this cherrie topping with waffles and served it with some whipped cream.....omg it was sooo good.

I have experimented with homemade WW pancake/waffle mixes and ends up no one likes them. Instead, I grind up oats...regular, old-fashioned, normal, minute, steel cut, any kind you like oats and substitute that for the flour. They are delicious, chewy, fluffy, yummy and oh so healthy.

Also, in order to obtain that little extra crispness, I have found that adding a couple tablespoons of Brown Rice Flour is essential.

And we always use Buttermilk too.

I would google Buttermilk Oatmeal Pancake Mix..same exact recipe just poured into your waffle iron.

I don't have an exact recipe to share. sorry. It's different everytime as I add roasted vegetable root powders to my batches.
