I'm wondering what others think about starting whole milk mixed with my son's formula...he's 11mo and I've heard from one friend that now is when I should start adding whole milk to his formula.(a bit at a time). He's more advanced in food b/c he just didn't want much to do with the baby food, I don't know if that would matter at all. Thanks

What can I do next?

Feel Free to add half and half..it'll be fine
but if he rejects it then i would add like 3 oz. whole milk to a additional 5 oz of formula. best of luck with it.

I agree - you should ask your pediatrician. Generally I think they advise to just switch over to whole milk at 12 months. Good luck!

First, ask your Ped. My doctor tested my son's iron levels at 9 months and said that it was okay to start giving him half milk/half formula bottles. But, I don't think that is the norm. My son went through a phase where he no longer liked the taste of formula, so we had to result to different measures because he was drinking less than 16 ounces of fluid a day. Usually they recommend waiting until one year before starting whole milk. HTH!

One month doesn't make that much of a difference. I it did with my oldest duaghter(she's 14 months now). I actually discovered that whole milk doesn't sit well with her so she drinks 2%instead. I have my daughter on WIC and the nutritionist there recommended that I start her on milk about a week before so that she was getting all milk, no formula when she actually turned one year.

Whole milk is fine as long as he's ready for it (you'll know if he's not) LOL But make sure you give him organic !! They put too many antiboitics and growth hormones in the cattle now a days and it's really not good for kids! (just fyi!!)

Hi C., how are you? I definitely would recommend starting to mix the two, and as it gets closer to his first birthday, you should be giving him more milk than formula in the mix .. that way by the time you want to have him on milk he doesn't even feel a transition.

Good luck!

I would ask his doctor, they might not want you to do half and half due to the fat content, etc. With my oldest I just made the transition to milk after his first bday. I didn't do any half and half bottles and his transition was just fine. I wouldn't anticipate any problems because they should be able to easily digest the milk at this age. I would just stick to formula until your ready to make the switch and then just switch it. If theres any problems you can deal with them if they come.

check with the peditrician. My advice is once your child is 12 months switch to whole milk plus of course the jar foods and come off the formula, otherwise it would be to much fat. that is my advice
