White First Communion Suit for Boy

Hello Mamas,

I see the question was asked in 2008 but here we are in 2014. My son is going to receive his First Holy Communion and our church says he needs an all white suit. I've been everywhere from Sears, JCPenney, Macy's Dillards, Nordstroms, Children's Place, Gymboree, Janie and Jack, Burlington....and I am sure there are others.

I can't find one! I asked at our church and was told that Burlington always had them - or look online. Any suggestions? If you got one online, is there a website you can recommend? I am a bit afraid of ordering online for fear of it not fitting.

Then I need white dress shoes - for a boy! Help!

Thanks,
C.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you all! Based on Tracy's recommendation I went with Amazon and got a 5 piece white suit for $28 plus shipping! We found white dress shoes at IDEAL Baby and Kids in Pembroke Pines if anyone local is looking for them - $14.00 - on sale and $.99 for white dress socks. He looks adorable! Amazon was very easy and thankfully I didn't have to deal with any returns as the suit fit first time.

Why don't you try and rent one at a bridal/tux shop, since he will never wear a white suite and shoes again.

We got my sons all white suit for 40.00 including a white shirt and a purple vest and tie at Burlington. ..he was the only little guy who wore white but he also got the most compliments and looked like a little boy should. A lot of the boys wore polo shirts and kahis....the shoes we got from payless

Good luck!

Call your church to double check. The boys usually wear black pants and white shirt with black tie. It's the girls who wear the all white. I have had all my kids and grandchildren go through first communion and have never in all those years seen a boy dressed in white for anything except baptism.

There were 8003 results on amazon when I searched "white suits for boys."

I love amazon, and have had excellent luck when ordering from them.

Congratulations on your son's First Communion! My son will celebrate Confirmation in May. Exciting times! :)

Wedding shop?

I am so glad our parish didn't do the white for boys. The girls were hard enough.

Oh, do you have a Catholic supply store?

I ordered my daughter's baptismal dress and accessories on Amazon.com. There are a ton of white communion suits listed. Here is the link http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/s/ref=is_s_ss_i_1_21?k=white+...+

Amazon's customer reviews are incredibly helpful - reviewers will describe quality and sizing. Amazon ships quickly and returns are easy.
Congratulations to your son!

Is there a catholic "Store" near you? Once that sells clothing, rosary beads, etc? If so, try there. Otherwise you should try the internet. Find somewhere that doesn't charge a restocking fee.

Also, try a tuxedo store - just use a euro tie (regular white tie) with it. Kids in weddings wear white suits all the time. Will probably save you money, too!

Wow, why do they insist on this?
Do they realize the expense and waste could be avoided if they would either allow you all to just allow a white long sleeved collar shirt, with black bow ties with nice black pants and nice black shoes?

What boy is ever going to wear a purchased white suit, or horrors white dress shoes again at this age?

I agree to price this at a rental place, ask if there are parents from last year that you could call. Offer to purchase their sons suit.

The church could purchase assorted sized white jackets to be loaned for each communion class. Or you could be required to give a deposit for the loaned jacket, that would be returned when you return the jacket.
Of course if you suggested this, I guess you would have to organize it..

Maybe get this bunch of parents to consider donating their sons outfits for the next group.

I know at our old Catholic Church they allow the boys to wear tucked white shirts, black pants, with a black belt and black bow ties There was a box of donated black bow ties available at the church. It was the "no tennis shoes" that seemed to upset the boys the most.. Of course being in Texas, we saw black cowboy boots every once on awhile.

Do you have a Once upon a child store in your area? They usually have suits for sale that really have only been worn once....good luck with the white shoes!
Consignment shops also could have them.

1/4 of my family is Latino and all of the boys wear white suits for First Communion and Confirmation. The Caribbean and African families at my church always dress their sons in white for these occasions. So I don't think it is weird. If your town has a shopping center with many Latino or Haitian stores, there is probably a bridal store with a children's section. Try there.
Or as another Mama said, rent one from a menswear shop.

Boy, did this bring up fond memories. After you get the suit, tie, shirt, shoes, etc., check out his underwear and socks to make sure they don't have blue markings that show throught the linen pants!!!! Have a wonderful day!!!!

My son is making his in May, and our Church recommends a dark suit for the boys. My daughter made hers in 2010, and none of the boys had a white suit. Good luck finding one!

Do you have indoor swap meets there? Try a few of them. That is where I am headed to get my daughter's first communion dress. Her fee just grew to the next size and I am measuring her height every weekend because she should grow in height next. My luck the dress will be too short, so if I have to I will buy the dress the week before communion.
