Which Work Out?

Hi! So, my husband, SIL, BIL, and cousins and I are entering the hero rush 5K as a team for next May. If you haven't heard of it you should look it up. It's not just a regular 5K. It's a 5K where you are climbing walls, crawling through tunnels, jumping over flames, ect... You get the idea, lol! Very tough and I have never done anything like this before but I'm excited because I think it will motivate me to get in shape. But, right now, I am not in good shape. I have about 15 pounds to loose, and I would need to build up endurance and strength to do something like that. So, I wanted to see what you guys think. What home work out is easier to start out with? Either insanity, P90X or 30 day shred? I do have a gym membership and I just recently started going again, but I am in horrible shape. What do you think would be a good jump start to get going on? It's a good thing I have almost a year to get ready for this because I will need it, lol! Thanks!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

thanks for the good advice. I do get a free personal trainer at the gym once a month, so I will start using that. THey do also offer classes including step, so I will look into the times for that plus also look into dvd's since I don't always make it to the gym. Childcare is $5 each visit, so I try to go when my husband is home, but it doesn't always work out that way. I really don't want to injure myself, so I will take it slow and work up to it. Thanks for reminding me of that because I was all ready to just go for it, lol! I am trying to eat better. I am trying to quit soda. I didn't have any today at all, and have only had water and gatorade. I did our weekly food shopping today and got a lot of fruit and no junk. I am hypothyroid so it does make weight loss a bit harder, but I think I can do it if I really stick with it.

insanity or p90x would be my vote. Start with insanity then work up to p90x.

I have done P90X and Insanity ~ I loved them both. Insanity focuses more on cardio (it's intense!) and P90X is some cardio with strength training (a lot of push-ups, pull-ups, weights, etc.)
I wouldn't "start" with either of these work-outs. You need to work up to them.

Just start walking-you can build long lean muscle, burn fat and increase stamina-with the others-you could need double knee surgery by this time next year.

Start with brisk walking twice a day for two miles each session. Go to your healthclub and see if they have a weight training class or a lifting class. You can start with just a little bit of weight. Those two things should get you going. You can "up" your walking to part jogging a little at a time and so on.

My suggestion is to start slowly. If you throw yourself into a tough workout right away, you very likely will get hurt or discouraged, or both, and stop working out. Find a workout that you like to do that fits into your schedule, and gradually increase the intensity of your workouts. If the gym offers personal training services, take advantage of that and get some expert advice about how to proceed. It's a great goal and you've left yourself plenty of time. So good luck!

I am a former aerobics instuctor. If you have not been excercising, do not start w/ P90X. You can get hurt very easily! This workout is not for a beginner! Start w/ a traditional 45 minute aerobics tape.

I worked w/ a trainer for 6 months (at a gym) to learn how to use weights correctly-- after tearing a hamstring--- which set me back 6 months! See if somebody at the gym can show use how to use the machines and weights in proper form before jumping into P90X.

In the meantime, I would go to the gym, do some Kathy Smith aerobic tapes. Even Richard Simmons tapes will make you sweat. I have a 45 minute step tape that is great, too. Then, I'd introduce Insanity...

What you eat has alot to do w/ shedding weight. Raw veggies, fruit and some gd protein is important.
