Which Formula Tastes Best (More like Breastmilk) for 4 Month Old

I am the mother of a 4 month old. I am going back to work in 3 weeks and I am going to try to pump enough milk each day to send to daycare with her. Since I am worried I will not be able to pump enough I want to be able to mix formula with the expressed milk. To date she has been exclusively breastfed, except for one bottle of expressed milk each day. Last week I tried mixing formula with the one bottle she gets and she did not seem to like the taste. I used Enfamil Gentlease for gassy babies (powder type). She does not seem to like the taste of this. Does anyone have any suggestions for a formula that is less yucky to her and is more like breast milk? I know that breastmilk is best and trust me if I could stay home and nurse for a year I'd do it. But the reality is that I have to go back to work and I just don't get enough out of the pumping. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

What can I do next?

A.- i advise not to mix breast milk w/ formula- your breastmilk is precious liquid gold and if she doesn't finish the bottle, you are wasting your milk. i was in the same situation as you- went back to work after 4 months and was not able to produce enough milk to pump so i had to supplement w/ formula. my daughter had no problem adjusting to the taste, however, she did break out in a rash from some of them, so also watch out for allergic reactions. we use similac organic which she seems to like and no rash has developed. continue to pump as much as you can and take fenugreek capsules to boost milk production. good luck!

I gave my daughter enfamil (the gold one I forgot the name) at 6 months and she took it just fine, but some babies just wont drink formula. I have known a couple of people that have gone back to work full time and continued to feed their child exclusivly breast milk. You just have to make sure to pump as much as she is eating now. This means being able to pump at work. And the more you pump or feed the more milk you will produce. Start saving now and put it in the freezer. I think it lasts up to 3 months. Good luck!

Nothing compares to breastmilk. Just see what she prefers. If she has been strictly on the boob until now, I would suggest a soy formula that will be easier on her digestion system.
Talk to your doctor first for his thoughts.

Don't listen to whoever C is...she is being very judgemental...I hate that.

Anyways...I have 5 children ages 2-20. I breastfed all of them and supplemented when necessary.

At first when you go to work, you may have a lot of milk to pump...but the schedule will make you a little stressed. It is easy for me to say don't be stressed...but that's what happens. Try to relax when pumping at work. I look at my baby's picture alot...that helps. Make sure you drink plenty of fluid and don't drink caffeine...this will dry up your milk.

As far as the formula...you will have to try different formulas to see which one your baby will like. I found that my baby actually liked the Target brand...it's also 50% cheaper if you don't have WIC. Once you have found your baby's milk supplement...Make enough bottles...but tell person to give the breast milk first. Remember, bottles shouldn't be used after 48 hours. and make sure you clean the bottles with hot hot water.

DON'T STRESS OUT OR FEEL INADEQUATE ABOUT YOURSELF. This isn't the hardest part of breastfeeding...It's when they are teething and start to bite you like crazy.

Good start formula is really great. You can see the diffrence from the first bottle you make. Make the bottles as directed, and look at the diffrence in the bubbles that each one makes. My pediatrician gave us a can of each and told us to make it, shake it, then make our decision. Enfamil and Similac have so many more bubbles when you make a bottle. How can that be good on a babies tummy.
Don't feel bad about switching over, you need to do what is best for you and your baby. Giving your baby a little formula here and there wont hurt her at all. Relax and enjoy this special time with your baby, any less stress on you is less stress on her. By the way a little plug on good start, how bad can it taste, its made by nestle, how yummy is their chocolate!

Enfamil was my favorite formula because it seemed to dissolve the best. Also, my babies spit up the least with it. Try mixing very little amts of formula with the breast milk. Gradually increase the formula and decrease the breast milk.

NO formula tastes like breastmilk. However, your child will get used to it. I would recommend Earth's Best Organic Soy formula. Children under the age of 1 should not have cow milk because it can increase their chance of lactose intolerance and increase the possibility of ear infections and colds. I started giving my son one bottle a day so that he will sleep longer at night. It worked! However, it did take him a while to get used to it. Now he takes it with no problem. I found that if I warm it close to my body temp he takes it more readily.
