We are in need of another baby gate for our hall way. We would like one that mounts to the wall as I don't care for the pressure mount ones. I have had a few different ones in the past and nothing really makes me want to go back and purchase them again.

Your recommendations and advice on what ones to avoid would be great!!!!

What can I do next?

I have the Evenflo gate and really like it. We have had it for about a year now and have had no problems. It's nice because it slides in half way so you don't even have to really open it by swinging it open, you can just slide it open.

Our babysitter introduced us to the EvenFlo Simple Step baby gate and now we have two. It's nice because you only need one hand to open it and it swings both ways. Bought it at Walmart for about $40.00.

We really love our Safety First Perfect Fit Gate. It can be pressure or hard mounted. If hard mounted, it just swings open when you pull on the handle. Also, it is harded for baby to climb on. We have two and are happy with both!

We like the Safety 1st Perfect Fit Gate. It was the only kind that fit well in our opening, which has wood trim on the bottom. It looks nice because it has opaque panels that would be very difficult for a child to climb. We've had it installed for 8-9 months now and it's still very secure. Here's a link to the gate on the Safety 1st website.

I love our retractable gate. I have no idea what it is called and it doesn't have a name on it. You can operate it one-handed but it is tricky so it is even tough for the 7 year old. =) It holds over 200 pounds I think. I love it because it rolls up on the rod and isn't a big cumersome gate to have to contend with. LOVE IT!!! My husband got it on ebay for 100+ brand new. I think he just typed in "retractable baby gates."

I picked up the IKEA mounted gate at a consignment sale and love it, I'd be more then willing to buy one from the store if we needed another. The latch is one handed but hard, so that even as our children grow it will be awhile before they can operate it. Its taller then the normal gates so there is no way he'll be climbing it anytime soon (he is 15 mos and can already climb the cheap pressure mounted wooden ones). Its metal and easy to clean also. Plus being IKEA its probably not very expensive. Happy hunting :-)
