hi ladies, im looking for a good idea....hubby wants to know what to get me for the holidays. the only thing i really want is to get in shape, but being home all day with a 4 year old who never holds still, and doesnt even consider napping, a 2 year old, and a 5 month old who is breastfeeding all day, its tough to get in a workout. so as long as hubby is shopping, i want to grab my chance while i can and maybe get a membership someplace kid/baby friendly. i would leave the kiddies in a nursery that is clean if i can see them, or see them on those video things, but i am wondering about a way to keep the baby with me. i know this is a stretch. any ideas? i live in nassau county. thanks, D.

What can I do next?

LA Fitness is great. They only charge $10 a month (flat fee) for the Kids Club and the hours are great. Can check up on the baby anytime and they will call u if baby needs diaper change or anything else comes up. The Kids club has a play gym, educational toys, flat screen T.V and most of all they socialize with other children. Staff is great. The gym is also great for u (pool, all kinds of classes, don't have to wait for machines). U can look them up online and check out their locations.

Hi D.,

I too am a 39 year old mom of a 4 year old son and would love to get in shape myself. I also live in Nassau County (Wantagh). I used to live in Island Park and remember looking into the New York Sports Club in Long Beach and saw that they have a cute large nursery room there too for kids that looked pretty clean. You have to pay a few bucks for the babysitting there but might be worth it. I assume all NYSC clubs have it there. Maybe one day you might want to meet up if you don't live too far away. Feel free to email me at ____@____.com

Have you considered the YMCA?? A family membership is reasonable and they have babysitting on premise (at least the one we go to.) And since you are all members you can use the pool and take advantage of classes.
And as a side note...I read Dr Oz's book You:On a Diet, and I LOVED it. If you are interested in shedding a few pounds, he has an excellent program. Best of Luck!!

Hi D.

Most gyms have kids clubs now. I've been impressed with NYSC (as the other mom mentioned) and Xsports fitness center (bottom level of the Roosevelt Field Mall). I along with two friends are joining Xsports on a quest to say, "good-bye" to our mommy bodies and "hello" to bikinis this summer :-) (Note: I'm 40 with 4 year and 2 year old so it's time since there are no additional little people in my plans.)

Another avenue is the local Jewish Community Center (JCC). Good luck!

Regards -A.

Hi My name is A. and I'm a Certified Personal Trainer. I go to client's homes and train them there. It's very easy to incorporate a child into a routine. It allows Mother and Child time together while giving you the time you need to exercise. It also makes it more enjoyable. Especially because you don't have to worry about your child being in the nursery. I bring equipment with me, so you don't have to supply anything. You can look me up on Mamasource under fitness centers and gyms. I go by A.'s Personal Fitness Training. If I'm in your area, I'd be happy to help. Otherwise look in your area for a trainer to come to your home. You also save on membership fees and get one on one personal training. Money well spent. Good Luck

Hi D.,

Do you know about LA Fitness in Lake Success and they have another location in Farmingdale. I have been going there for the last year and about to renew my membership. They are a huge facility with a great Kids Klub program. They have toys for all ages of kids including babies. They have a huge flat screen TV and video games and lots of open space for the kids to run around. I have to renew my membership and looking for soemthing closer but they typical don't have childcare services which means I will never go. Anyway... I hope this helps. I use to go with my girlfriend who has a son and we had a great time and so did the kids. Good luck!
