Where to Get H1N1 Vax in Cook County/City of Chicago

Has anyone heard how Cook County/City of Chicago is going to handle vaccination for Tier 1 recipients? I think I heard something about offering the vax at the 6 City Colleges, but nothing about dates/times, etc. I know Kane County is doing a clinic on 10/26 from 4-9, but that's really all I've heard about any formal plans.

Please note that I am only asking about when/where clinics or opportunities will be made available. I know that people love to debate the merits of vaccination, but clearly this is not my request. I'm satisfied with the healthy decision that I am making for myself and my child.

If you have information, please feel free to pass it along.

So What Happened?

Thanks for the input so far. I just found this article on Chicago Tribune's website that answers my question:

Minute Clinic (located inside CVS pharmacies) will be administering them to individuals aged 18 months and older that fall within one of the "priority groups" (i.e. children, pregnant women, health care workers, persons with chronic medical conditions). The vaccine is free, but the administration fee is $15. Maybe your insurance company will cover it.

There are 20+ Minute Clinics in Chicago and the surrounding areas. You can google "Minute Clinic" and find one nearest you and call the 800 number to see if your clinic has received their shipment of vaccine yet. (Due to arrive in the next week or two). You don't need an appointment as the clinics see patients on a walk in basis only. Try to go first thing in the morning to sign in (maybe before the clinic even opens) b/c it can get very busy as the day goes on.

I too am looking for the H1N1 vaccine for myself because I'm pregnant and haven't had any luck finding it yet. However, I was able to get my 18-month old the first of the two doses she needs at her pediatrician yesterday. He said picked up some for his office, because it hadn't been shipped to him yet. You've probably already called your ped, but it may be worth checking with them again every so often until they get it.

Hello,

I am totally editing my response resulting from all the calls I have made this morning trying to find out where I can get my child vaccinated. If you are in the city of Chicago they are offering the H1N1 vaccine at select city colleges. (Kennedy King, Daley, Truman, Wright, Harvey,a few others---not Harold Washington) It is free and for anyone over 6 months of age. It is the shot form. It will be offered first come first serve this Saturday (10/24 9am-2p) also some of the colleges will offer it the following Tuesday and Thursday in the evening hours. Call 311 for more info about that. They do not have the seasonal flu vaccine. If you are in Chicago and want the seasonal vaccine, 311 instructs you to contact your local doctor. My current ped does not have any seasonal flu vaccines. He does have the H1N1 in a nasal form. I contacted minute clinic and they have no seasonal flu vaccines in the city of chicago at this time. You might try their number to find if they have any seasonal vaccines in the suburbs.(it would be the shot form) They only have the H1N1 vaccine available in four states: Florida, Virginia, Kansas, and Indiana (the Indianapolis area).

This link is for the suburban cook county area. I contacted them and they can direct you somewhere if you live in the suburbs of cook county, not the city. They are vaccinating school age kids through the schools. call the hotline for more info in that area.

My husband works for a private university and is able to get vaccinated there. Maybe check through you or your spouses employer if thats an option. It does seem as though there is a bit of a hold up on getting the vaccines produced and distributed to the public. I would imagine most of this will be solved in the next couple weeks, but once you recieve the vaccine it still takes a couple weeks to build up immunity, so the sooner the better!
