Have fun here in Utah!!! I saw at Kmart that there was a good warm looking jacket that has gloves and it was around $20.

I agree with consignment stores. Children's items are especially current at places like Kid to Kid or Once upon a child (if you have those in CA) because they can only wear one season, basics like snow pants/overalls, etc are very reasonable and new styles.
Also, Target had some great snow gear a couple seasons ago. Could check their online store as it is getting colder up north:)

OK I am not one to buy my kids clothes in a goodwill store or thrift shop BUT, last year I was in our local "AmVets" thirft shop looking for Halloween costume stuff and saw some really good snow gear for so cheap I couldn't resist. I had to snag it. That sort of clothing usually isn't used often and kids gorw out of it so fast, it doesn't have much wear and tear. The stuff I saw was in great condition. Maybe try those kinda places, you certainly will save a buck.

I got my son's snow bibs at Walmart, and they lasted him 2 seasons, with no signs of wear. I thought that was pretty good for $13. And with a sweat pants underneath, a turtleneck, and a warm coat, scarf, gloves, hat, and boots, he was plenty warm enough. I can't see spending a fortune on kids snow clothes, which they wear so infrequently. And unless they are going to live in sub zero temperatures for days on end, I can't see that the higher rated ones will make that much difference. Thrift shopping is a good idea for this kind of stuff.

Don't get me wrong, I love Land's End and LLBean's outwear, I just can't see spending the money on snow pants.

Now, if you're skiing, and they need 'equipment' as opposed to snow clothes, then that may be a different story.

Definitely check consignment sales. We also love Lands End. Even better would be to find Lands End at a consignment sale!! :)

Land's End/Sears, The Company Store's branch called Company Kids -both have reasonably priced ski bibs and pants for kids as well as jackets. Check out REI -especially sales and JC Penney (look online at all of these). Also peruse some thrift stores if you have time. We had the cutest Columbia ski bibs for our boys when they were 1 that we found at a Value Village thrift store for $3!

If you are looking for ski clothes (bibs, goggles, gloves, etc.) do you have friends that you could borrow from? If you haven't been in a lot of years you may want to see how it goes for your family before you go out and buy all that gear. If you are just looking for warm clothes for that type of weather try:
Gander Mountain
Bass Pro Shops
Sports Authority
LL Bean

I'd look at ebay or Target on-line.

Lands End. Wonderful clothes that all come with a Lifetime guarantee. I have returned stuff to them that hasn't lived up to expectations-even years later-and they accept it back with no questions asked. They are also always running sales so you should be able to get a deal. Some Sears have a LE dept. but in California they may not have the snow clothes.

Try a consignment store or Ebay. Especially since you won't be using it much, you'd hate to pay full price. But if you want to, LL BEAN, and Lands End are great places to get stuff. I buy all our stuff at consignment stores though.

If you want them to be warm and dry you need to get clothes form a manufacturer who makes ski gear, if you plan on spending any amount of time outside. So, beg borrow and steal from your friends who ski...or check on Craigslist for brands like Obermeyer -who make GREAT kids skigear- marmot, spyder, columbia and lands end.

The stuff at Target/Kmart/Walmart is fine if you don't expect any kid of performance out of it.

Just FYI, this year I splurged on a new set of bibs, jackets and warm fleece sweater for two kids it set me back $288 and that's with the 50% off sale. Helmets are $50-60, goggles $25 and gloves $25 it gets very, very expensive. But my kids never complain about being cold when they're outside in 0 degree days with it snowing and they're out all day. :) To me, it's worth the cost.

Have fun in Utah!

Burlington Coat Factory. Also, look into re-sale clothing stores. How old are your children? I have boots and a bib.
