Hi,

I am looking to move my 4 year old son out of his toddler bed into a twin bed. I'd like to buy a complete bedroom set (bed, matching dresser and nightstand). I don't want to spend a lot of money but I'd like it to be good quality. I know I'm asking for a lot, but I thought I'd ask here and see if anybody has any suggestions on where I can go or where you have had good experiences. I have also been looking on craigslist for (gently) used furniture but haven't really found anything to my liking.

Appreciate your responses.

Try Ikea, it's cheap, and okay quality. Not the best, but it might be worth looking at. They have lots of kids stuff there.

I second Roomz for kidz and teens.........we bought our 3yr olds stuff there. They have pretty good prices and great quality. Never hurts to go and look .... we went to the one in Arlington Heights.

Aarti,

try Value City Furniture. I know they are typically synonymous with crappy furniture, but honestly... you can find some decent stuff there. We have bought stuff there, and some of it sucks, some of it is good. We have black leather furniture set - still looks like the day my husband bought it (it was his bachelor furniture - but it's nice enough to go into my formal living room). We also bought a microsuede sectional - hate it. I got an all wood (Maple)table and chairs - it's modern yet classic looking, has held up very well. I will actually be reupholstering the chair seats soon because our decor has changed and there is no reason to get a new one because it still looks great.

You have to go look at any wood furniture you buy... check if it's veneered, constructed of particle board, etc. But you CAN find some good pieces at VCF. I was glad to get my interactions with their personnel behind me, because it leaves a lot to be desired, but I am not sure my view is accurate.. my husband tells me I expect too much from people. (like when somebody says I will call you back with the answer before the end of the day, I expect they will do that and not make me call them back 2 days later... )

good luck!

We just went to Rooms for Kids (they have a couple of locations). Check their web site. They have a wide variety, good quality and good prices. Good luck!

Someone else posted a similar question not to long ago. Hope these responses might help:

I still stand behind my original response to visit PM Bedroom Gallery in Naperville or Lombard.

We have purchased our kids' "big kid" bedroom furniture at PM Bedrooom Gallery. They have stores in Hoffman Estates, Lombard and Naperville. Their website is www.pmbedroomgallery.com and you can see a lot of the styles of bedroom furniture they offer.

The quality of their furniture cannot be beat and the styles will last throughout high school. We're even hoping they can take the sets with them when they start out on their own.

The best part is that if you want another piece of furniture (say a nightstand or a chest) later and they no longer carry that style, they will go to the craftsman and he can make one to match for you. So, you never will have a problem of the set being discontinued and not being able to get extra pieces to match.

Their service, delivery/assembly and quality have surpassed any place we have looked at.

Good luck!
