Bunk beds are not safe. This came up a few weeks ago on this website.
You may want to rethink your decision after reading about other peoples
experiences. I was going to purchase bunk beds years ago, but after speaking to friends decided against it. I think I made the right decision.

Craigslist is a good way to go, you just have to constantly check until you finally find what you're looking for (new postings, etc.). We got our daughter's loft bed that way. It retailed at Sam's Club for about $1,300 but we paid about $500. Yes, it had a little wear and tear, but nothing that couldn't be cleaned up.

Do research in advance to find a good bed and be sure to right down the name/model, then start cruising Craigslist. Quality beds can usually found at regular furniture stores and Sam's Club online had some good ones, too.

My mom is actually wanting to sell her cargo brand bunk beds. They are VERY high quality and have been through her kids (who are 30ish now) and my 10 year old used them too. I think she's asking $200 for them.

We had great success on Craigslist. We did have to be right on top of the new listings, but we got a great deal on exactly what we wanted.

Check out IKEA. They have nice bunks for a low price. You can get them at places like Walmart and Target, but I think the IKEA bunks are nicer for the money and offer more flexibility for decor and as the children grow. They also have toddler versions as well. If you don't have one near you, they will ship.

Well... it depends on whether you want quality or low cost. If you want quality, go to a nice furniture store near your house and see what they have. If you want low cost, look at Walmart, CSNbunkbeds.com, or bunkbedking.com. All three have the same basic brands and styles, and they're all cheap.
