You can always ask if the medical provider will offer you a discount if you pay in cash. I worked in healthcare for many years before I became a mom, and we had lots of patients in your situation. Sometimes, the provider will charge you a lesser amount if they know you're uninsured but good for the money, if that makes any sense.

Best of Luck to you!

I was just about to say the same thing as Heather, that's where I would go first. GL to you, it's hard when you don't have insurance. Keep your head up.

Walgreens and King Soopers have recently opened up clinics in some of their stores. You would be seen by either a nurse practitioner or PA. They advertise office visit costs starting at around $70 (I think). You can go there to be seen for a physical and for common illness. The Walgreens clinic is called the Take Care Clinic. Hope this helps.

We travel a lot, and have found that some urgent cares are really inexpensive, and let you make appointments, so once you're established, the cost is even less. I think last time my husband had to go it was $70 as a new patient. I know we pay that at the regular doctor's office, normally. You'd have to call around to see who in your area does it, because we've also paid as much as over $300 for an urgent care visit. Also, most doctor's offices will give a cash pay discount. If not, you can always set up payment plans, although some work with you more than others. I know it's tough without insurance. We have it, but we have to be pretty much dead for it to kick in. GL!

You can go to Denver Health and apply for CICP (Colorado Indigent Care Program). Most of the health care costs are covered under this plan as long as you are seen there. Good luck!

You can always try St Joseph's Family Practice which has rates according to your income. Denver Health and Medical offers the same kind of program. Kaiser also has a program called Connections, this goes according to your income. Hope this helps.

L.,

I am actually an insurance broker and can give you quotes for medical insurance for you, your husband and the kids or just the kids. I know money is tight for everyone right now. But we are free and I can help you to at least look if you would like. If all else fails I can also tell you about some of the areas around town where you can get discounted healthcare (at least if you live in the aurora/denver area. Just send me a message and I can send you our companies phone number if you would like and talk to you about the options out there. Good luck!
