I agree with Amanda...Jarosch Bakery. We ordered the big cake for everyone there (DELICIOUS!) and they gave us the little cake for my daughter to eat/play with for $5 extra; it was covered in frosting and edible flowers and was chocolate...perfect for her. I don't know if that's a regular price for it, but they are so nice and accommodating and everything in there is excellent. I can never go in there just to get what i've ordered....i always have to buy some of the pastries on display. it's delicious!

My girl isn't one yet, but I plan on getting her a cake from Azteca Bakery on McLean Blvd. off of Rt. 20 in Elgin. It is a little Mexican bakery and you can't beat the prices. The tres leches (3 milk) is to die for and not too sugary. The frosting is a subtle sweet whipped cream and you can choose your fruit filling.
CostCo is also really tasty and cheap. I was impressed with their frosting, too, creamy super sweet, but not grainy like some buttercreams.

I actually had trouble finding someone in my area (Aurora/Naperville) that would do a little cake (smaller than 8 inches). So, I made it myself.

I make cakes for myself, friends and family and I am in process of starting my own business. I make delicious cakes with fresh fruit and whip cream and beautifully decorated. They are always a big hit at all the parties. I hate sheet cakes and Jewel-like cakes, they are way too sweet and nothing special, this is why I got into making my own. For 1st birthdays I make cakes shaped like a giant number 1. I'm in Roselle and can deliver to Hanover Park. You can check out pictures of my cakes at www.yvettescakes.shutterfly.com Let me know if you're interested. Thank you Yvette

M.,

I get my cakes from Jewel in Hoffman Estates. I have found that they make delicious cakes,
are excellent at decorating them, and costs less than a traditional bakery.
(I've tried other Jewel's, but like the Hoffman Estates Bakery best.)

I do not belong to Costco or Sam's Club, but have eaten cakes bought from there by others, and they are wonderful and extremely inexpensive.

Otherwise, for a traditional bakery, try Deerfield's Bakery.

Happy birthday to your little one! I got my daughter a tiny chocolate cake from Trader Joe's just last week and she loved it. I think they also had a vanilla version. They were on the cart with all the other baked goods.

I would check out Toni Marie's in Hinsdale...that is where I got my wedding cake. The cake not only tastes delicious...my favorites are the red velvet and the devil's food...but looks great too! And she will do any design idea you bring in! Hope that helps you out!

The Cakery in North Aurora on Oak Street did an AMAZING job on our son's first birthday cake. We just let them know what we wanted (jungle theme with an elephant, giraffe and monkey)and they created the design. I was in the hospital having our daughter (gotta love Irish twins!) and I wasn't able to really supervise anything with the cake. Once we opened the box, I realized I had nothing to worry about. It was beautiful and perfect. The free smash cake (included for 1st birthdays) was adorable as well. Reasonably priced, we got a half a sheet cake for around $45. Considering it was a totally original design, the price was exceptional. They completed both cakes with only about five days notice. They also did the cake for a friend's son's first birthday and it was amazing as well. Great people to work with for such an important day.

Hi M.! I always make my own. You can find great creative ideas (and easy ideas!) if you just google the type of cake you want. I found a ton of ideas for the butterfly cake I made for my daughter for her birthday, and I've done a train, four small cars, and a Blue's Clue's pawprint for my son. Good luck with finding something! First birthday parties are so much fun!

Jarousch Bakery is Elk Grove Village on Arlington Heights Rd is awesome. They make the cutest cakes and are So yummy. We order my daughter's cake there every year. And they are very nice too. Last year we ordered a $60 cake for her birthday party and we ended up having to cancel the day of (it was outside and it stormed) and when I called them to see if there was anything they could do they told us not to worry about it right off the bat. They said they wouldn't charge us anything and they would try to sell it for a reduced price. They have great everything there in fact. (Try the butter cookies- YUM)
Good luck!

When my mom offered to buy our daughter's first birthday cake, I mentioned Jewel, because they have a really yummy bakery.
However, after she did some research on her own, she was able to get a bigger cake with filling for less money at the Super Target in Broadview.
And it was delicious!!
