Where Can I Find an Affordable, Stylish Diaper Bag?

I am 24 weeks pregnant and looking for a diaper bag. All of the diaper bags in the baby stores either are plastic-covered or look like a man's laptop bag-both very unattractive. I like the look of a Kate Spade or Coach bag, but have been told they will be ruined as soon as something spills inside. Ideas on where to find something practical and useful?

So What Happened?

I found a cute diaper bag at USA Baby. It's big enough to hold the essentials, but not so big that I could fit baby's entire wardrobe in it. And it was only $25! I also got a small one from Target. I found cute ones at Pottery Barn Kids, but at $89, I would wait until they go on sale.

I have a Coach diaper bag and I love it. The inside is such that it's easy to wipe up if you spill anything. Plus, it's timeless so it's worth the money. Also, Coach has great lifetime warranties so again, worth the extra money. I got mine as a gift but it was from a
Coach outlet, maybe there's one around here which would make it more affordable.

I have the basic black Gap diaper bag. It has the changing pad and zipper bag and lot's of compartments for storing stuff. It's similar to the Kate but less expensive. I have also seen cute ones from Lands End that you can have monogrammed if you are into that.

Timbuktu makes a really great messenger bag. They're pricy, but it'll last you well after you're done carrying diapers. Easy to clean, well made, loads of little pockets inside. You can slide your own changing pad inside, too. Also, etsy.com is a fantastic place to find one of a kind handmade and stylish bags. They have really awesome stuff.

look at babystyle.com
not super affordable, but can be used for things other than diaper bag after baby is older. I think the cute ones are called the "un-diaper bag"?
I also like title 9...they have cute sling bags.
good luck. D.

I bought a bag at 2 Red Hens online and love it! I heard about them a couple yrs ago as someone on Will and Grace used one. Tons of different designs/fabrics and various sizes. I bought mine 2 yrs ago, so the website may have changed. They also donated part of the proceed to cervical cancer research (I think thats the one). My advice, buy something that you love, even if its a splurge. You will bring it everywhere! I wish I would have bought this one with my 1st baby instead of my 2nd, when I finally knew it was worth it :)

Try eBay! I have seen a lot of really cute "boutique" style diaper bags in eBay stores. I imagine that you could also find a designer diaper bag (or something similar) for a lot less than you'd pay in stores, even with the shipping.

I have a Coach diaper bag and I love it. I have spilled probably a million things in it in the past two years and it is still in great shape- you just have to wipe it out like you would any other bag. I think it is far more durable than the cheapies and worth the price. I will definitely use it for baby #2.

Good luck! R.

Uber Baby on Lyndale is fun. Also online, there's a great website called Baby Wit. Here are the links:

There are places that sell inserts with diaper holders, changing pad, and wipes, and bottle holders and you can throw it into any bag you want. I was able to use any big bag and was ready to go. My friend used that and her Coach bag, and just made sure she kept plastic bags in there. Also there are stores like Uber Baby, Pacifier abd Bebe Babble that have awesome bags...I was not a big fan of diaper bags but the options are so much better!
Good luck,
C.

I got mine at Target, and it's actually really cute! It's chocolate brown and looks like suede with faux-leather handles. I hated all diaper bags, but this one is actually cute and functional.

Target's diaper bags are great, but don't count out regular bags that you can use as diaper bags. I just got a great one at Kohl's. I love it because it has two big compartments, one for my stuff and one for the baby's. And it's fabric, so I could throw it in the wash. It probably cost me $15.

I really like the diaper bag that I just got. It's called the diaper dude. I bought it new off of e-bay because it was cheaper. I think it was about $60. It is a bag that could easily be used after diapers too.

I ordered mine from a company (well person really) called Construction for All. It is a wonderful bag, I also added the changind pad, zip bag, and got a matching tote for my daughter. The bags and changing pad are machine washable (in cold, hang dry or low heat). The are very well constructed and durable. I also like that you can remove the strap and it will attach to a stroller. The hardest part is choosing the fabric that you like, she sources from some of the hippest fabric design producers. I got mine with the magnetic snap closure, for easy one-handed access. My previous diaper bag was a Petunia Picklebottom, it made it through the first two kids. But, I like this one much better and it is about half the cost.

Go with what you like. It doesn't have to be a diaper bag to be useful. It just has to be spacious enough to get everything in like diapers, wipes, a spitty cloth, bib, change of clothes, bottles, etc. I bought a large, expensive designer bag for my diaper bag. It's leather and unlined and has been great. What's more, I'll be able to use it after my babies are out of diapers. If you select a bag which isn't a diaper bag, but will have the space you'll need, I suggest buying a changing pad to use with it. I was given a very cool one by Pagoda which was purchased at Pacifier in NE. Good luck with your decision.
