Where Can I Donate Kitchen Appliances That Are in Good Working Order?

Hi Moms,

We remodeled our kitchen and now would like to donate an oven with overhead microwave, a dishwasher, and a kitchen fan/light, all of which are in perfectly good working order. Does anyone know of a church or charity (or individual family) that might need these appliances, that could pick them up? Or any other organization that could pick them up?

Thanks in advance, moms!

What can I do next?

I'd try calling your local Habitat for Humanity. If they can't use it, I'm sure they could direct you someplace that can.

Call Salvation Army. We donated 2 dressers and they even came and picked them up. I don't see why they wouldn't need appliances.

There is an organization in Arlington Heights that takes donations for the disabled. I believe they use the donations to help the disabled set-up independent living. This is where we donated many items when we moved. http://www.clearbrook.org/about_us/resale_shops.html

Try freecycle.org - this is a web group that believes in keeping landfills free of items that still have use. People log in all the time looking for household items, especially appliances.

Believe it or not, I "offered" a used, 20 year old garage door opener (yes the big track and box at the top of your garage that's all greasy and dirty). We replaced ours since it was old and had no sensors to prevent the door from closing on our kids/toys/etc. I hated to throw it away since it was still working ok.

Someone JUMPED to claim it. She was selling her house and the garage door opener just broke on her. She hated to buy a new one, since she wasn't going to be around to use it.

You wouldn't believe how grateful this woman was that someone thought to post it.

Someone's trash is someone else's treasure!

Go freecycle!
