Where Can I Buy a Doll?

Hi Ladies,

I am sorry about asking this question so early in holiday season. I am looking to buy a doll for my 18mo. daughter. She plays with the dolls at daycare, and I was looking for one to get her for xmas. The problem is I just want a plain old doll. I don't want it to cry, talk, scream, crawl, be motion activated, drink, or wet its diaper. I was wondering if anyone knows where I can get a simple doll. The ones she plays with at daycare have plastic face, arms and legs, and the body is soft. It doesn't need to be a specific person. She doesn't really watch TV, so she doesn't know or care if it is Dora. I would really prefer suggestions under $30. Thank you in advance.

R.

I got my daughter a Corolle Calin doll that she has enjoyed since she was almost 2. Corolle makes good quality dolls that run the gammut with all the bells & whistles to very simple as you describe---which is what I was looking for also. Happy shopping!

Hey, R. -

Have you ever shopped on etsy.com? It's a handmade gifts site - I'm sure that you could find an old-school, down-home plain cloth dolly there. Not sure that's what you're looking for -

I bought my daughter "Baby Stella" on Amazon. She is soft and a good size for that age. There are also accessory options to purchase down the road for her. My daughter loves it! Good luck!

Hi R.,

Check out Corolle dolls, www.corolle.com
I've sometimes found them for great prices at Tuesday Morning, TJ Maxx or Marshall's.

The Corolle dolls are great for smaller kids. They have plastic faces and hands and the bodies are soft (and washable!!) They are also light enought for even little ones to carry around. I bought one at a local toy store, but found another much cheaper on Amazon with free shipping. My girls are now 3 and 18 months and they play with them every day!

The Grand Rabbits in Superior had probably 50 different kinds of dolls to chose from, ranging from $15 to way more than I'd ever pay. Seems like there are a lot of the $20 simple dolls like you're describing. We found ours at a garage sale, and have since 'traded' with a cousin, but either way my daughter loves it. I even discovered that a disinfectant wipe worked pretty well to remove stains from the cloth body.

I recommend the Little Mommy Dolls- Target/Wal-mart etc.. and Costco has The Newborn Deluxe Set stroller, high chair and bed + set for $34.99. They are wonderful for the little girls, they are aged 2 years and up and really hold up to the kids use. Costco also the Little Mommy Dolls separate for about $10.

the best doll I found was in the $10 isle at either target or walmart. they usually come with a pacifier attched and sometimes hae a few little accessories in the box. they are just plain old dolls no fancy features. there are also water babies that most little tiny girls love because they are squishy. you can find those at walmart.

if you want something nicer Grand Rabbits or Playfair toys in Boulder both have nice Carroll brand dolls that are basic babies and American Girls doll company makes a "bitty baby" series that are just plain dolls (some have hair some don't) They are on the pricy side, but dolls do last forever.
