When Your Kids Are Just. Plain. Cool.

When I tucked my 8 y/o into bed last night I went to leave and he calls me back to his room and asked for a second hug and kiss :) then says to me "Mom, I love you bigger than the universe".

My 4 y/o was frantically running around naked after his bath the other night. I asked him why he didn't have his jammies on yet and he said (in the saddest most pathetic voice) "I can't find my Batman ones". I smiled at him and said "Mama just washed them and they should be about dry". We went to the dryer to dig them out and he grabs them and hugs my legs and says "you're the best mom in the world, I think I'll keep you".

Little man says "lud you mom"
Me: I love you too!
Him: I lud you 12!

The other day sis heard me talking about Girl Scouts and the upcoming year and she says "Mom, are you still going to be my leader?"
Me: "Yes"
Her: "Ya baby! You're the best leader!"

All that hard work is so worth it now...I just have to remember this conversation when I am sinking in the water of events/activities/ and cookies.

ETA: Little man again: Walking in the zoo over the weekend I was getting tired, grumpy...he knows what will make me laugh...he runs in front of be puts his hands on his knees and says "shaking my bootay, shakin' my bootay"...I know probably not going to win mom of the year for him knowing that but he's too darn cute!

5 year old laying in my lap this morning...
Me: "Hold on, let me get you a pillow"
Kid: "No, I like using your tummy. It's so soft and squishy!"
Me: "Um, thanks?"

16 month old in the car on the way home from the grocery store,
"I happy!" Aww, so happy when my boys are happy!

The other day, we were on our way to ballet, and had been sitting in traffic (it's practically a second job around here) for a while. My youngest (just turned 7) had been very quiet, to the point that I thought she might even be asleep (so rare is silence in this child).

Suddenly, her little voice piped up: "Mommy?"
"Yes?" I said.
"I never want this summer to end," she said.
"Really? Why?" I asked.
"Because it has been the best summer of my entire life," she said, with a satisfied sigh.

YES!! :)

My daughter went back to school clothes shopping with a friend today. They are both 17, going to be Seniors.

She texted me about 10 minutes ago.

Her: I'm in Victoria's Secret and they have the soft jammies we both love 2 pair for $49. I just wanted to make sure you are a size small because I am bringing a pair home for you
Me: SWEET

Last week:
her: I'm using the last bit of your homemade marinara sauce.
hubby: I think mom has a back up jar in the pantry
her: I don't like the jar sauce, I only like mom's.

SWEET

I felt loved!!

My 4 year old son told me that the model in the Victoria's Secret catalogue looked like me. And of course he still wants to marry me. :)

Gen just had a melt down because I couldn't instantly produce the copy of sims she was looking for so no positive thoughts at the moment.

Ya know what does crack me up, Tommy, you want to come over for dinner, who's cooking, Troy, I'l be right over! Yup they love their step dad better than me.

Oh, so when we got the kamado grill, Tommy comes over for dinner. See the pattern there? If you buy me one of these I will call you dad.

I love how strange my kids are.

When my older son is up at his dad's during the summer, I will text him "goodnight and love you." Almost always he will immediately text back "love you too." <3 Warms my heart . . .

My younger (15) always tells me every night how much he loves me. He's so loving, and giving.

I just love that my teens still show their love and that we're close.

Oh my gosh - this brings back such a sweet sweet memory of my son - not something he said but, well...... I would always help out at my kids' school with the much younger kids; so one day when he was in about the sixth or seventh grade, I was in the hall with the little kids and my son was walking to another class. He saw me and blew me a kiss!!!! Oh boy, did it make my eyes well up.

Even now as he's getting ready to be a Senior in school - every once in awhile he'll stop me, kinda grab my arms to make me face him and he'll look me in the eyes and say: "Mom, thanks for all you do around here!"

Then my daughter, she's 14 (almost 15!) need I say more!!! lol!!! She'll actually say: "Thanks for taking me and my friends to the mall!" Thot I was going to have a heart attack with that one!!! lol!!!!

Even tho I don't mind one bit taking them places, etc., it REALLY is nice to hear every once in awhile that they appreciate us or even notice things!!!

Son (13): "Mom, I'm glad Alan's mom is not my mom. Do you know why?"
Me: "No, she seems like a nice person."
Son: "Yeah she's a nice person, but a lousey mom. For one thing, she
treats her kids like babies and she's not as cool as you are."

Cool??? Sissy me cool???? All those years of being "plain Jane" in high school cool??? Yeeeeeeeeeeessssssssssssssss! :)

Well I was at my kids' school today... (I work there but was also there to help in my kids rooms).
Anyway, my daughter is 9 and in 5th grade. But in front of ALL the kids... she calls me "Mommy..." and says "Mommy, huggy time!" (Which is her word for her wanting to hug me). And she says it in a normal loud voice.... and then HUGS me, in front of everyone! With no hang-ups about having to be "cool" or too cool, to do those things, still.
And all her friends, call my "Aunty."

Oh and I wore the same blouse to school today that my daughter was wearing to school too. We both have a similar top. So anyway, I wore that top on purpose, just out of fun. And all her friends noticed of course that we "matched' and they thought it was cool. They told her and she told me.
One day, she may not be so much into that... and probably won't even want to hug me. So I am enjoying it while it lasts.

My son and I reading one of his books today and theres a part where they talk about being a drum. And my son reads the next line where it says "how would you like someone to go BOOM BOOM on your tum?" He said it in the sweetest little voice! Just melts my heart when I hear him read.

We're in the middle of potty training right now, so there's a lot of high-fives and hoorays happening around here :) It made me laugh so hard though, when my little guy was using the potty and when I said "Yay, you're going!" he said "Yay! I'm so proud of you Mommy!". LOL

It also melts my heart when I tell him goodnight and he scooches closer and puckers up to give me a kiss and says "I love you Mommy" <3

We've been reading Holling Clancy Holling's "Pagoo"... my husband offered to read it to Kiddo the other night and he said 'no, only Mama can read that one to me'. Awww....shucks.

Otherwise, it's nice to get those "you're the best mommy" comments and the Thank Yous that come with making a smoothie or setting out lunch or turning a cardboard box into a 'log cabin'...

I have the flu. Yesterday I was stuck in bed (or the bathroom) and DH manned the house. DD drew me a picture and said it was to make me "get all better". And today she looked at me and patted my head (like I touch hers for a fever check) and said, "I'll take care of you, Mommy."

I was laying down on the couch this weekend and my 2 year old came in and "petted" my face (a serious of slaps, but I knew he was trying to be nice), and said "MY mom. I wa you".

I think it was last week (or the week before?) when my 5 year old was eating dinner and said "Mom, are you still going to make menus when you go to heaven?" and I was like "What?" and he said "Well, are you still going to cook for us, or do I need to learn your skills?" (as he all but licked his bowl clean).

Yesterday my 5 year old said "___ (neighbor boy) has no imagination mom! It's sad! Thank you for teaching me imagination"

When my hubs travels, I always invited the kids to sleep with me. Their choice, in bed or on a futon. Then it just waned away over the last year, I stopped asking, they stopped asking. Last night my son had a friend stay over, and my 10 year daughter, asked "Mommy, can I sleep next to you tonight?" Ah, I'm still thought of and she even called me Mommy - one more time.

My kids have randomly thanked me a lot this summer for the fun activities and places we've been, for hikes, for meals. So sweet to love one another, respect one another. I know what makes is extra special for me is that it's not what I grew up with.

P.S. My DD just got picked up by an Olympic figure skating coach. It's too early to tell how far this will go, as she has to get through puberty first and assess her development. She always thanks me every time she gets off the ice and we are driving home. "Mom, thank you for taking me." It's really sweet, eh?

Mom I am SOOO glad you didnt make me eat rice AGAIN tonight! - 5 year old at supper yesterday.

Mom, why are you so squeezable soft, my poochy mommy - (jury still out on if I loved it or it made me want to go on a diet again) 3- year old last night.

1 year old threw his sippy cup at me, and pointed to sink and said STINK! well at least he is on his way to getting there.

I love the way kids can be loving sometimes, then totally poops the next.

I have tons of moments to chose from with twin toddlers, but the best are moments with teenagers because they come fewer and further between :)

We had a night out with our 13 year old to the big outdoor country jamboree we take her to every year & it down-poured rain the whole time... we said if she wanted to go home we would, but if she wanted to stay we could stay... so we stayed for all the concerts (about 6 hours) and got soaked (even though we wore raincoats) and danced all night in the rain :) i heard her say quietly to herself with a big smile "I'm never going to forget this night, ever"... when i asked her "what?" she just kept the big smile & wouldn't repeat herself (in typical cool teenager fashion). It made my heart smile she still has such a good time hanging out with her parents :D
