I am making our daughters baby food at home. She will be 6 months old on Monday. Can we introduce MANGO? Some sites say yes some say no...

Did you steam it first to help break it down? Can it be frozen?

What can I do next?

All I know is, Mango, if eaten fresh, can irritate the mouth area in some people and cause itching and/or irritation pain.
And/or rash around the mouth.

I grew up on Mango as a kid, as most people in Hawaii do. We just pick it off of trees here.

Always, rinse the mouth thoroughly, after eating. Some people are affected, some are not. In varying degrees.
My Dad... was quite allergic to it. Me, not as much. Some, can't even eat mango at all.

Mango- is NOT a "citrus."
It is related, Botanically, to the Cashew family.
It is also botanically related to Anacardiaceae, which includes poison ivy (Toxicodendron radicans ), sumac (for example, Rhus integrifolia, or Lemonade Berry), and pistachios (Pistacia vera ).

According to Ruth Yaron (who wrote the book I recommended yesterday ;) ) baby must be at least 6 months.

She just says to puree it. Yes, it can be frozen. She says it can be stored for up to 10 months in the freezer.

HTH! Hope she likes it!

My daughter first got it in store bought baby food at around 6 months and learned that she was allergic to it. She breaks out in a rash. She is now 3 and we watch everything that she eats to make sure there is no mango in it. She is now 3 and she still breaks out.

mango was about the 3rd or 4th fruit we introduced. I'm not familiar with it being a bad first food, high sugar maybe? Well, all is well here and she still loves mango. I prepared it raw in a blender often mixing with another fruit, but not always. and yes freezes great! Mango was a big hit and never noticed adverse affects.

Mango was one of the first fruits I introduced to my son. He loved it. At first I would steam it. Yes it can be frozen. Now that he is 9 months I give it to him raw. He loves it! I don't see why not.

I always did mango pretty early because it's awfully easy. As long as it's really ripe, I never steamed it first. I ALWAYS froze my baby food in ice cube trays because it's nearly impossible to use all of it before it goes bad. Just pop it in the microwave briefly and you're good to go! Have fun!

I made my daughter's baby food and when in doubt or in need of more ideas, I took my cues from the commercial brands. One company makes mango in a Stage 2 food, so for babies 6 months and up. I would steam it first and then run it through the food mill, since mango can be stringy. Also, don't give it full-strength, but mix a little mango with other fruits to make a blend, since mango is a citrus and can be too much for little intestines and booties. Good luck!

The Indian grocery stores sell mango pulp. The only thing you need to know with that is that they do add sugar, which many moms wouldn't want at this stage. If you go that route, Ratna brand Alphonse is the best.

SH talked about mouth itching, which is a possibility. From what I know about food allergy, cooking fruit makes that less of a possibility.

Ask your PED. I started with veggies, then fruits, and then other stuff.
