My daughter will be 3 in November. She still sleeps happily in her crib. Most people I talk to say to keep her in the crib for as long as possible. So how do you know the right time to do it? My oldest was out of his crib early due to climbing out. Thanks and Happy 4th of July!
We're working on potty training now so that makes sense about her being able to get to the bathroom. Thanks for all of the responses!
When they climb out it needs to happen, but at 3 you can do it anytime. I switched both of mine at 16 months and they did fine.
my boys were in cribs until they were two - then they were in big boy beds...that works for US...you need to find out what works for you and your family....if she's not climbing out at 3 - I envy you!! :) I would have her in a big girl bed if she's potty trained....to me - that's the guideline - cribs are for babies and beds are for potty trained people/kids.

At three, she's old enough to climb in and out, so I guess you keep the rail down now. If she's happy and your happy, let her stay a while more until she's ready for the next bed. You could get a set of twin beds and the other bed will be good for guests or her sleep overs. Either way, sounds like both your kids are doing fine.

As long as she's happy and you're happy, keep her in her crib. If and when it becomes a pain or she starts climbing out, switch her. Our son was in his crib until he was 3 and would have stayed longer if we hadn't needed it for his baby sister.
I believe you should switch before potty training. A potty training child needs to be able to get up and go potty in the night, if they awake with the urge. Otherwise, all your doing is teaching them to go in their pants at night and ignore those cues, which makes for a long, long, LONG road ahead of nighttime Pull-Ups, bed wetting, etc.
I moved my dau at 3 since she needed access to potty at night.
I would have kept my DD in her crib as long as possible if I did not need the crib for the new baby. I moved her out at 2.5 but always said I would keep her in till 5 if I could LoL
I switched my daughter at 16 months to a twin bed, and my son at 2 years old also to a twin bed. I think 3 is a little old to be in a crib

but the potty idea sounds about right too - so they can potty in the middle of the night.
My oldest son was in his crib until about 3, when he finally learned how to climb out. My middle son learned how to climb out a month ago, so we had to get a crib tent for him. I am still trying to get him to transition to a toddler bed, but he gets out about 20 times before falling asleep and I am just not ready to have that battle (I've got a 3 month old to put to sleep at the same time.)
Our pediatrician recommended against the crib tent and said that once they climb out or outgrow the crib is when you need to put them in a big kid bed.
My oldest would have stayed in her crib longer than 3 had we not been expecting #2. In the end I paid careful attention to her sleep patterns for about a month before we moved her. We waited until she would spend most of the night in relatively 1 position and didn't constantly turn herself around and backwards when sleeping. It made me feel better about moving her into a big girl bed because even with safety rails they can still fall out if they move too much. My youngest is now just over 2 years old and she may be in the crib for a lot longer than her sister.
If it ain't broke don't fix it. She'll let you know whenever ready.
A toddler bed is for toddlers, ages 12 months to 24 months. Your little on is too old for a toddler bed so moving up to a twin or full is a good idea. The longer you wait the harder the transition will be.
