My 3 year old son is in a crib size car bed. He only sleeps with blankets still. When is it time to go to actual top sheet and comforter. Do I wait till he gets into a twin bed? What age is appropiate for twin bed?

What can I do next?

My twin girls are 3 1/2 and they sleep in a convertible crib (front removed). They have had comforters and pillows for over a year now. We plan to move them to a real bed as soon as we buy the mattresses. They sleep in twin beds all the time at my parents house and vacation with no issues. Good luck.

I haven't moved my 2.5 yr old yet but we did grow into top sheet and comforter -- I just tuck them around the mattress (we use normal size twin ones rather than buying the toddler ones). I plan to move her when she is between 3 and 4 sometime -- right now she loves her toddler bed so no reason to rock the boat. And, she is petite so she isn't growin out of it. Gauge his interest -- ask him if he would like to move into a twin bed. He might be excited for it or might be attached to his car bed. Feel him out and move when he is comfortable (unless he outgrows the car bed first - ha). Good luck!

We got our daughter a Disney princess toddler bed set w/ pillow case, fitted sheet, top sheet, and bedspread while she was still in a toddler bed. She slept in a toddler bed from about 15 months til about 3 1/2 years of age. I think we started out with her regular crib sheets & comforter. I loved the top sheets that were fitted at the bottom to help keep them in place.

She is 4 years old now and sleeps on a twin mattress (just on the floor, no box springs yet). She's got twin size sheets & comforter now too.

I switched her to the twin mattress because she looked so uncomfortable in the toddler bed. She always moved around a lot when sleeping & would end up laying the wrong way on the bed. I figured she'd be more comfortable with more room!

Whether you keep him in the toddler bed longer or switch to twin, I'd say you can get him "big boy" bedding. :)

Both of our two have been in a twin since they were 13-15 months old. So any time is fine.

M.,
When I got my son a twin bed, I had visions in my head of him all snuggled up under his plump comforter and perfect sheet sets with his ehad on his pillow---WRONG! LOL They sleep like pack animals! haha Comforter is OFF the bed, blankets pushed down, favorite blankie dragged out of the closet.....Ugh.
Do whatever works for you right now. He's probably not growing out of the car bed yet right? Just work the twin into your plans for his room eventually. Good luck!

When we moved the kids into the toddler bed I had the crib sheet on the mattress and had made some flat sheets from a twin cut in half. I tucked them in and put the larger crib blankets on top. The kids are 11, 9, 6, 3, 2, and 1 now an NONE of them use anything but a blanket or sheet they favor. They kick off everything and only use what they are comfortable with, It just confuses me, I always liked the feel of the sheets tucked in and not binding me up during the night and all my covers neat and easy to manage in my sleep. Kids will sleep however they like.

If you want him to go into a twin, or bigger, then do it when you think it's time. My family used the baby bed until about 15 months, then the toddler bed until they were climbing out and sleeping on the floor to get more room, usually by 3. I have been known to have a crib and 2 toddler beds or a Queen, a toddler bed, and a crib in the same room for kids. My neice moved her son from baby bed to a queen at 18 months, she said why mess with all the other sizes, he'll need a big bed when he's bigger so I am buying it now.

I'd wait for the twin, otherwise you will buy two. We skipped the toddler bed altogether for our oldest and just used a twin with a rail. He was about 3. My youngest had a toddler bed (gift from a friend), but only used it for a few months before switching to a twin. He was also 3.

We actually moved my oldest into a double bed at about 3.5 yrs, and my twins shared a double bed until about 4, and then we bought them each a double bed. I figured this way I bought the beds they will sleep in until they go off to college.

They actually sell top sheet and comforter sets for toddler beds. My daughter moved up to a twin bed when she was 4 but I think it's kind of up to the child and their comfort level.
