When Did You Start Showing? - Philadelphia,PA

I'm sure this question has been asked many times before, but I'm not sure how to search on here. I'm 9.5 weeks pregnant with our second child and I think I look bigger now than I did at 18 weeks with my first. It's not like I kept any of the baby weight between the two either, in fact I started 4 pounds lighter before this pregnancy compared to my first.

So far I'm still able to wear most of my pre-pregnancy clothes, but I have to be selective because I definitely have a belly and no one at work knows I'm pregnant yet. I know they say you show earlier with your second, but this seems crazy. Just wondering what other moms experiences are.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Riley-It's interesting that you say your uterus grows up. I'm 5' 2" so my uterus has no where to go but out. I constantly had doctors unable to find my son's heartbeat because he was much higher than they thought he should be and my fundus was above my belly button like 2 months before what they consider "normal." He ran out of room going up fairly quickly and there was nowhere to go but out. I looked like I was carrying a basketball.

I show faster each time. Very quickly I outgrow my pants...like by 8 weeks I'm pretty for sure completely outgrown. Your muscles are different after having your first baby. It makes them not hold it in as tight, PLUS, your body already knows what it is doing now and it seems like things happen a bit faster because of it.

Your uterus already knows how to stretch out this time so you will naturally show earlier than last time. Plus, new pregnancy = new way your body acts. When I was pregnant, I SWORE I was showing by 11 weeks, but looking back, it was more like 14-16 weeks . . . your mind could be playing tricks on you!

I've only had one, but I didn't start showing until around 7 months. It was so odd, because I felt him moving from 15 weeks on, but didn't have a belly visible in clothing.

My sister got bigger with each one. With her second she looked 4 months pregnant by 8 weeks. The third, I think she was showing before she got a positive!! I have heard you show sooner with each one, and it has proved true with most people I know.

Because your muscles and uterus are more relaxed due to a previous pregnancy, you will become bigger much quicker.

I'm only 6 weeks now with my third and am already showing. Even though the baby is only the size of a sesame seed, the body goes into pregnancy mode quicker as the muscles start relaxing.

Also, carrying different depending on the sex is largely a myth, though some people do believe it. I have 2 boys and carried both of them very differently. It's all up to chance, really.

with your subsequent pregnancies, "typically" you do show earlier. your tummy muscles arent as tight and your body already knows what it is like to be pregnant. also, as a "side note", it is possible you are preggers with multiples. I had twins 9 months ago. when I was about maybe 10 or 12 weeks along I already looked like I was about 6 months pregnant. I started showing early as well. you never know.

With my first pregnancy I was almost 7mo and barely showed (I could still button my pants/wear normal clothes no problem). The ultrasounds shocked the doctors, since I had, if anything, a 'large for gestational age' little girl growing away.

With my son I was showing / had to wear pregnancy pants in my 2nd month. Of course, with him... by the end I was carrying 40lbs in my uterus (aka as big as a full term quad mom). Since multiples run in my family everyone thought I was having twins or triplets at least. It was annoying.

I was thin to start with both pregnancies but stayed thin with my first and was FAR more muscular (6pack, active duty military). The heavy duty muscles and the fact that my uterus expands upward more than outward anyway reeeeeally hid that pregnancy.

With my first , not till over 5 months. It took her longer to break through my little 4 pack i had going on.

With my second much sooner, 4 months you could tell i had a baby bump, but my tummy gained weight at 3 months.

With this baby im 4 months and still losing weight, i have a little bulge but nothing like with the last baby.

When pregnant with my twins I was clearly showing at 8 weeks. With my second pregnancy I was showing even earlier at 6 weeks. Coworkers were asking around to see if anyone knew if I was pregnant.

I only have 1...Didnt start showing til 16(ish) weeks (maybe 18..but im SURE to me in the shower I was showing at like 13 weeks). I agree with you..they say #2 is earlier...HOWEVER if its a different sex you will probably carry completly different...
Congrats on #2 though..we are contemplating the idea....not sure if we want to 'double the trouble'..lol

With 2, and 3, and 4, each at less than 12 weeks, I was totally into maternity clothes, even though I gained no ACTUAL weight until the third trimester with each of them! (And --- With my first, you could not even tell I was pregnant at 25 weeks!!) Don't worry about it! Who cares! Just be happy and show off your belly :) Let them think you are just fat!!
