Hi! My daughter is now 22 months old, and I am starting to think about when I should move her into a bed. I would love some feedback, as to when you moved your child, and also any advice on your decision to move them to a toddler bed, or straight to a "big" bed. Also, does anyone know how long a child can use a toddler bed..like until what age??? My daughter is very petite, and still fits well in her crib...but I know sooner or later she'll need to transition. Thanks so much for your time!!!!

A., I moved my daughter into a big girl bed at 19 months. She hated her cribb and we went thrue hell every nap time or bed time. A s so as we moved her everything changed for the better. she still sleeps very well.
Every child is diffrent and you will have to take your childs lead. I'm A strong believer if something is not working then you should change it.
As far as how long, I've had freinds were their kids have stayed both crib and toddler beds till 4 or 5yrs of age. I guess it all would depend on thier size. Good luck

We moved our DD from her crib at about 22 months... we needed her crib for our DS that would be born soon and I wanted her to have time to adjust beforehand. (The crib was convertible, so we first used that for a few months from 20-22 months.) When we bought her her "big girl bed" the salesman at Haverty's was very helpful and suggested a "bunky board" instead of a boxspring. This helps keep her at a level much closer to the floor in case of falling out of bed... which isn't an issue, but makes it easy for her to get in and out of the twin bed by herself.
We haven't had the need to put gates at DD's door, she has pretty much always stayed in bed/her room once she was put there.

Hi A.,
I think each baby is different. My son stayed in his crib until three. He never tried to climb out. My daughter, however, was out of the crib shortly after she turned two. As far as toddler beds go, I think they're a waste of money. Both my kids went right to twin sized matresses with the plastic guard rails. We were able to use the same rails for both kids.
Good Luck!

I moved my daughter at 2 years old because we moved from Hawaii to Florida so perfect excuse in addition to I was 8 months pregnant and needed the crib. Regardless of fit in the crib or whatever don't move your child until you think your child is "ready" Make sure you put a gate on her bedroom door so she doesn't wander at night and buy bedrails so she doesn't roll out.................there is no rush!!! Do it when everyone is ready! Good luck! BTW, I live in Wellington also (in Grand Isles)

A.,

We moved our daughter at 26 months and it was to a toddler bed. Like you, our daughter is very petite.

We bought this one: http://www.babyage.com/products/50803_todays_tot_todays_t... for $99.

Is a great bed and it uses your crib mattress! We are looking at twin beds now but for the transition it was great!!

Hope that helps!
