What my question is I have been dealing with endometriosis for a good while now. I had surgery for sterilization(fixed is my words)that I cant have no more children I have two now. Something happened in my life that I made that decision but anyways back to the question the doctor says i am to young for a hysterectomy and he wont do it but i am so tired of taking the medicine he has me on because of this problem. Should I see another doctor for a second opinion? Tired of dealing with the medicine and depression as well.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I had my second opinion this week with a woman doctor. she more of less told me she would treat me the same as my own doctor. keep me on the medicine that i am on and do to my "so called weight" granted i have some but not to over excessive anymore like i had. she wouldnt perform surgery because it would take longer for me to recover. so instead of getting all bent our of shape i am staying on the medicine unless it quits working. i want to thank everyone for their advice and thanks for being there for me and trying to help. you all are great. thank you

I really do sympathize. I was diagnosed with Endometriosis/interstitial cystitis and HPV a few years back. I am going to be 32 in May, 2007. My doctor's also think I am too young for a hysterectomy. I had my tubes tied after having my daughter 4 years ago. I am on so many medications such as: Elmiron, Darvocet, Percocet, Motrin. I also take Nitroglycerin and Xanax for anxiety and angina (chest pain). I have seen two other doctor's and only one of them has said it is my decision on the hysterectomy. My biological mother died in 1994 at the age of 39 of Ovarian Cancer.

Hi D.. I know exactly what you are going through. I had endrometrosis and had partial hysterectomy. I was 18 when I had twins but I was suffering alot of pain and my doctor told me I had endrometrosis. At that time, I was around 23-25 years old when I had hysterectomy. My doctor wouldn't do the surgery because he said I was too young and he thinks I might want more children. So I went to get a 2nd opinion. I went to see the doctor that actually delivered my babies and he did the surgery. So therefore, what I'm trying to say, get a 2nd opinion to see if other doctor willing to do the surgery. I wish you the best of luck.

D.,
I would get another opinion. I worked with a fairly young woman (early 30's) who had a partial hysterectomy. She had severe endemetriosis that affected her day to day activities. Because of her age, she elected to have everything BUT her ovaries removed. By leaving the ovaries intact, she never had to deal with the hormonal issues associated with a full blown hysterectomy.
It can't hurt to get a few more opinions.

Hi D.! I agree with Tiffany below. Get a second opinion! I had a Hysterectomy at the age of 27. They just kept my ovaries in place so that I didn't have to expierience menopause. From what you are decribing I don't see any reason they would have to take the ovaries. If you want message me and if you live in the area I will give you the names of some good gyn's that should help.(I am an R.N.) Good luck! I hope evreything works out for you!

If I were you I would not be on here asking if I should go see another doctor. I would have been asking for second and third and possibly even fourth opinions since the day the doctor told me that he did not want to do the hysterectomy. I have known a few people with the same problem and they had the hysterectomies done and they have had no problems since then. They have even had less problems with migraines and a few other medical problems.

HI D.,
I KNOW YOUR NOT SUPOSED TO ASK A WOMAN HER AGE BUT HOW OLD ARE YOU? I WOULD GET A SECOND OPINION, IVE KNOWN PEOPLE PRETTY YOUNG THAT HAD ONE , THEY HAD TO GO THRU HORMONE COUNSLING . I WOULD SEE IF THERE IS A LAW AGAINST HOW OLD YOU HAVE TO BE , I KNOW THERE IS ONE FOR GETTING YOUR TUBES TIED! THE MARYLAND LAW ON THE IS 21 WITH 2 KIDS. IM NOT SURE ABOUT A HYSTERECTOMY. GETTING A SECOND OPINION IS NEVER A BAD IDEA THOUGH. GOOD LUCK

as for me i went through the same thing. medication and a surgery. i will not let them take all of my insides out!!! hang in their girl!!! you are toooooo young and that is not the answer to your problems. if you get this done you'll have more problems and depression like your having now. go see another doctor. Maybe a private woman doctor could do you some good??? just check out other optionss. PLEASE?? i myself am feeling much better now it's been about five year for me now. Yes i have two children and two miss carriages. my oldes is fourteen and my youngest is nine. I would definitely go to a different OB Gyn - it is your choice & your body! Finding out what another doctor says cannot hurt - especially when you know you do not want any more children & are dealing with the depression too. Good luck!

Definitely get a second opinion! I had my tubes tied about 8 months after I had my son (who is now 5 - and also wasn't supposed to be here! - the dr's had told me from the time i was 13 or 14 that my endometriosis was so severe that i would NEVER be able to have children). I had three surgeries to remove the endometriosis from the time i was 21 - 27, and in addition to the endometriosis I have had a history of ovarian cysts that rupture! Fortunately for me I only had the endometriosis on one side, because only one ovary functions properly, but I have had fewer problems with it since having my tubes tied and carterized (where they actually burn the ends of your tubes after they tie them). My doctor said that this process would help with the endometriosis more than just tying the tubes.
But if you are still having that many problems, and are in that much pain, I would definitely seek a second opinion! You've had your tubes tied, so you have already decided that you are not going to have any more children, you should be able to find a dr that would at least do a partial hysterectomy. Good luck! And hopefully you'll be feeling better soon!
