What Would the Reasoning for This Be?

heh heh intriguing title, usually those annoy me but i'm worried this curious question will come off as untrusting and i don't mean it to be.

the consultant for my 31 party insited on the items being shipped to her, so she could "process" them ie check that they were right and handle any problems right away plus separate out the orders for me etc. I wouldn't care except i had 2 orders that were done online and the customer wanted it shipped to me, I'm not sure why, i think they thought it was cheaper for some reaason.

editesd: sorry i know this was hard to follow. First my friend mary bought a tote online and had it shipped to her own house and i think paid $5 extra to have it shipped to her, that was fine,
My friend Robin bought a tote online and wanted it shipped to me ( I think to avoid the extra shipping cost of having it shipped directly to robins' home the way Mary paid extra to have hers shipped to mary's house.
the consultant wanted to go online and change Robin's order so that it would be shipped to the consultant. That felt weird to me, when i questioned it there was a lengthy but odd story about packaging things up and making it look nice and checking for issues.

just to add to the understanding i had 10 other people come to the party and order in person and pay by check. all money from all customers was either checks made to the consultant or credit card online straight to the company. so there was nothing about my credit card in any of this.

at first i wasn't getting what you mamapedias were saying about me possibly claiming an item didn't show up when shipped, I was thinking that she was having to trust me to deliver it all, BUT that would be after she had inventoried it. OK so i get it now, to oover the consultants butt that all the items arrived. got it thanks!!!

back to orginaial quesiton.

so do you think the consultant gets more money for " providing this service" or is she worried about problems, or could i some how do something dishonest by having it shipped to me, Im just not getting it, why does it matter either way?/

does anyone know? thanks.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I thought the consultant was just being helpful but she was soooooo adamant about it that her reaction didn't match the situation. at least in my point of view, I could understand if i was unwilling to recieve that customers order but basically the consultant will recieve all but this one order, package it up nice and then i have ato meet her to pick it up and I have to deliver it, so honestly it would have been easier just to ship it to me since she lives 30 miles away. sorry i hope that wasn't more confusing. BAsically Yes it would have been time consuming for me to do all 6 orders but I was happy to do the one, Maybe it is mroe complicatead if it's split??

something doesnt sound right ,so out of dozens of packages, this woman insists that one package be mailed to you, first? what is she hiding? my bet is the package is actually for her, from somebody that she doesnt want her husband/boyfriend/whatever to know about, thus, she is insisting that it be shipped to you first

How about this idea - maybe she has been burned before by people saying that something was missing from their order, and it cost her out of pocket. Maybe she decided that she would never let it happen again, and now she acts like she doesn't trust anyone to check the order.

What I think that is wrong of her, seeing as she is so insistent, is that you are having to meet her to pick up the items. She should bring them to you.

Don't know if this helps or not since it's just conjecture...

I just closed out my 31 party. If the items are shipped to the consultant, shipping is free.

If she doesn't know you that well, it could be she is playing it safe on her side. If she wants to review the orders and make sure everything is correct, I get that. It would save a lot of time on her part, and prevent people from saying she messed up their order.

Not saying that is what she is doing, but no, consultants do not get more money if you have it shipped to them.

Just because I am curious and obviously out of the loop....
What is a "31 party?" Is it your 31st birthday or some company called 31?

I agree with Dawn, that she's probably been burned before by someone saying something isn't right and then losing that customer and/or having to provide something out of her pocket.

However, I think her reaction is over the top, and I also cannot believe that you have to drive to pick up your order. I would never do that to a first time customer - it's the distributor's responsibility.

I know when my sister places her orders (not a 31 consultant)she has them sent to her because she adds additional purses to her order. Helps her keep her shipping cost down. She doesn't make the shipping cost back (per se)....she might have multiple orders being sent at one time.

sounds to me like a 'fool me once' situation which has nothing to do with you. i'll bet there was some sort of SNAFU with a previous client that has her being extra careful in this situation.
i can totally understand it having your antennae quivering, but unless she does something else that feels off, i'd assume that she has a good reason and let it go.

I never heard of a 31 party before but apparently it's like a Home Interior or Tupperware party. The hostess is selling Thirty-One products which are different types of purses, bags, totes and other similar products.
Thirty-One Gifts is a company - they have a site and a catalog.

I'm a little confused about the situation. So you put in the orders with your credit card, but she wants the orders shipped to her? I'm wondering if it's because she gets some kind of bonus (money or free products) when her orders hit a certain threshold.

I am "technically" an Arbonne consultant. Basically, I pay $15 a year to be able to sell the stuff, but I never sell. I only buy for myself at a discount. But if I order a certain dollar amount of products, I get free products or bigger discounts on certain items. Do you think she is trying to pool your orders with her own orders to get free stuff? It seems like she should still be able to ship to separate addresses to get any benefits.

Weird. You should be able to buy your product and have it delivered to you in whichever manner works best for you.

My daughter had a candle party and all the orders were shipped to the professional party person. They were shipped as one order and the party person, I don't know what to call her, then separated them into individual orders. The shipping costs are less this way.

Later: I urge you to ask your consultant why she's doing this before making assumptions.
