So What Happened?

Thank you all.
The sheets we got for our wedding 17 years ago aren't in good shape any more. MIL buys flannel sheets quiet often as christmas gifts, awful colors and i don't really care for flannel sheets in the first place. hubby gives off far too much heat as it is.

I had Kohls cash to use and have been wanting to replace these for so long. but i was sooo soo soo disappointed in their selection and couldn't believe the price. but felt stuck because i had $20 stupid dollars in kohls cash and nothing else at all i could think of to use it on.

and to top it off the sheets were buy one get one half off. i kept trying to decide if it was a good enough deal to pay 90 out of pocket for the first set and 55 out of pocket for the second set. when i wasn't even prepared to pay more than $75 to begin with. just total brain decision making overload.

I went with plain white, for $70 can't remember thread count probably 200 ish and just got one set. I'll stick to TJ maxx or Ross from now on.

Tops I'll pay is $50 for King. I usually end up paying $40 at Christmas Tree Shoppe or any clearance section in Target etc.

I only buy cotton now. I hate the microfiber ones and it seems like that's all there is now. However, I have had GREAT luck at Ross. And we have a Cal King so they are even harder to find. I usually will buy a couple when I find them. lol

I was just at a thrift store looking for sheets to hang on the sides of our canopy to keep the sun off us while we are sitting. It just happened to be 50% off all linens today. I saw a brand new twin set in the package. It was $6. So $3 on sale. None of us have a twin anymore or I would have gotten it. I did get a pack of pillowcases that wasn't open. It was $1 and you can never have too many pillowcases! I ended up spending $3 for 2 queen flat sheets for our camping trip. My point is you never know what GREAT finds you will get at a thrift store! Good luck!

I don't even spend that much on sheets for my California King. Costco has great sheets that are a really good price that last ages. If it weren't for our cats tearing up a couple of pairs (their claws got caught in a freak out and tore a hole) we'd still have them 7 years later. I've bought some at Target for our bed as well. Those are 6 or 7 years old. I don't go to places like Macy's or other big department stores because they mark everything up, you are paying for the store's name. Bed Bath and Beyond always seem to have 20% of coupons but they are kind of unnecessarily expensive so the coupon doesn't really help all that much.
I always have a couple pair of sheets at minimum, sometimes 3 or 4 pair even, so I can rotate to extend the life of all of my sheets. I also have spares so that I can quickly remake the bed even if I haven't had time to finish washing the dirty bedding. Comes in handy with kids who walk up to the side of your bed saying they don't feel well and proceed to get sick all over your bed LOL

I get our flannel ones at LL Bean just because I always have. I use a discount coupon and get end of season colors. They last forever.

For regular sheets I go to Marshall/TJ Maxx type stores. Just got beautiful cotton sateen sheets for my son from a store like that - from Lauren Home - and they were just under $50 for a full set.

Are you getting plain cotton or Egyptian cotton and what thread count? There are different weaves and that determines the cost. I have a few queen sets that are older and still good. How many sets of sheets do you have for your bed? That will help determine how long it will take to wear them out. The same goes for towels.

When I purchased sheets, I tended to go for the better quality ones knowing that they would be used and washed quite frequently. Some of my sheets are 20 years plus old and still going strong. The manufacturers have gone out of business over time. The only problem I am finding now is the size of the mattresses has gotten a bit bigger and the sheets are now shorter. Fieldcrest was my favorite brand at one time. Sheet sets were about $40 to $60 back then

I guess it is time to get new and get ready for retirement.

That's a little higher than what I pay for close to the same thread count. I've never paid more than $80 for a set that includes 2 pillowcases. I bought my last set from Target, online. They were on sale and not available in the store. Free shipping to my home too. I've also gotten good deals at T. J. Maxx.

I refuse to pay that amount. Sometimes I see nearly new sheets that I like at a thrift shop. I have 3 sets. 2 are from Goodwill. One, I bought new, on sale, a few years back.

I've looked at sheets recently and am surprised at their cost. Marshalls and Ross have queen sheet sets around $50-75. While looking for twin sheets, a Macy's clerk looked on line for me and found what I was looking for, on sale for $15. The whole set, delivered to the store so there wasn't shipping costs. The set was originally priced at $50. Next time I buy sheets, I'll look on line first.

For me, good quality sheets have a high thread count, are cotton, and good workmanship. I tried synthetic sheets and found them too hot for comfort.

If the sheets you're considering are good quality, that seems a good price. I will go as low as 300 thread count if the sheets are smooth and soft.

What thread count are you used to? If you're accustomed to a lower count then why not go lower? I just replaced our bedsheets with the Performance Sheets from Target. They're 400 thread count and a queen set is on sale for $40. http://www.target.com/p/threshold-performance-sheet-set-s...

I gravitated towards these sheets because they are bleach friendly and my husband will get an occasional acne outbreak and use benzoyl peroxide. There's nothing worse than bleach spots on expensive sheets.

I found that the best quality for the price sheet sets are at Target. Something like 600 thread count cost around $100. They last and of course, have lots of options at many price points.

i always check and compare similar items on amazon and box stores. then i have a better idea if i am getting a deal or ripped off.
certain brands are often higher priced, so checking around helps to see the price of that particular brand

No. Go to Marshalls or Ross and get them at 1/2 that price.

No. Check the thread count at Walmart. You can get the same thread count for less than half that price. So no. It's a crappy price.
