My son is 5.5 years old (45 lbs.) and my daughter is almost four (33 lbs). I would like to buy them both new carseats. We currently have our five year old in a booster seat with the vehicles lap belt, our daughter is still in a five point harness carseat.

What I was wondering is what type of carseat should I move them to? I want both
to be in a five point harness carseat, but can't decide on which one? We DO NOT have the LATCH system in our vehicle. I am considering any of the Britax carseats or the Graco Nautilus or ????? Any suggestions? I would like to buy one today or tomorrow:)

What can I do next?

Don't know if you've already bought your car seat, but I'd recommend the Radian 65 or 80 by Sunshine Kids. They are slightly more expensive (though I've seen them on sale) and weighs more due to the steel frame inside which makes it really safe, but they are very easy to install without latch and they have a narrower seat, allowing you to have extra room in the back for an adult. Baby, Mother, & More on Southern & Gilbert had some as well as a few other baby stores in the valley. You might be able to find a cheaper price online. We have both the Britax Marathon & Radian 80 and my 2 year old prefers the Radian. It doesn't have as much of a recline and is like a booster with a back - so easier to climb into by themselves. Good luck!

JC, my son is only 2, but I bought a Britax for him when he grew out of his infant seat, and I love it. I have a couple others for traveling and my second vehicle, but the Britax is definitely the most secure, comfortable one. Of course it was double or triple the price of the others. Good luck!

Hi JC, My kids are older, my 9 yo is out of a booster but my 6 yo still sits in his booster. Here is a good link to some AZ info: http://phoenix.about.com/od/parenting/a/childseat.htm Being that I'm an insurance agent, I err on being extra safe with kids in the car. It's a very sore subject with me when I drop off my kids at school to see all the kids in their mom's cars with no seat belts on or it's tucked behind them because it hurts their neck...HELLO...if they have to do that they need to be in a booster! Anyway, thanks for thinking safety first and I hope you find a good product that works well for you!

Hi JC
We have a britax for our 5 year old and a Recaro signo for our 1 year old. They were about the same price and I like the Recaro better. We have very tall children and this one allows for a little more growth. I ordered it from HIPmonkey.com There is no tax or shipping and all of the proceeds go to educating people on carseats. It was started by the family who lost there son in an accident because he was in a booster instead of a 5 point. Also, the latch system is only good up to 40lbs. After that you should use seat belst.
