hi -
I have a lot of old baby clothing that has been passed down many times. unfortunately some of the clothing has stains on it (some worse than others). I know this is a silly questions but ... does anyone know if any charity would like to GIVE (not sell) the clothing to families who could not otherwise afford any clothing (some of the items are onsies that can be worn under other clothing so you would not see the stains - it would just be another layer for warmth). I was thinking of a place like either a homeless shelter or abused woman’s shelter (the clothing is not worth buying so goodwill, etc is out). Any other thoughts? I don't want to seem disrespectful (no one wants there child to be in stained clothing), but if it can go somewhere besides a landfill that'd be wonderful. I also have an almost new pack-n-play I was planning on donating to the same charity.

I appriciate any ideas - THANKS!!!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

hi~
so I called 7 different places I could think of (homeless shelters, family shelters, salvation army, domestic violence shelters) and none will take clothing that is stained (which I fully understand). So here is what I've decided - I will donate the almost brand new pack-n-play to the domestic violence shelter, any clothing that is not stained and still in good condition to the domestic violence shelter or a family shelter and all the other clothing to Matthew 25 ( http://www.m25m.org/Default.aspx ) whose mission is to "provide nutritional food to the hungry, clean water to the thirsty, clothing to the naked, shelter to the homeless, medical care to the ill, and humanitarian supplies to prisoners". When I talked to them they said any clothing that is "too used" is recycled (e.g. used as rags, etc). glad to know there is something I can do with the clothing I no longer need.

thanks for the suggestions!

Even if you can't find a charity... you can post your items online at craiglists. Just find the correct place that you live...

Or if you live near orphanages of some type, you can donate to them.

Rerun the clothes through the washing machine with oxiclean and if that doesnt get the stains out use vinegar in a downy ball. You be ammazed how bright and clean it can come out. I did that with all my old baby clothes before donating them away

I would most certainly donate to a shelter of some kind, they would be appreciative.

We have a community center that sells clothing and I will sometimes donate things to them but I prefer to donate to the women's shelter.

The women's shelter houses women who have left abusive situations with their children and only the clothes on their back.

I am sure there is an organization in your area that would appreciate your efforts.

Domestic violence charity is a great idea. I have the same problem with my 2 yr old's toys... she has so many but I want to donate them to a charity that gives them away not sells them... toys for tots only takes new toys so I don't know. You could go donate them to a homeless shelter too.

I took a lot of things to the Pregnancy Crisis Center in my area. They were very appreciative of the donation. Just a thought.
